HC1 tunnel branch of the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection underpass project is being accelerated to open to traffic on December 31.
The Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho underpass project (District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) has a total investment of 830 billion VND, including two underpasses in each direction on Nguyen Van Linh Street; each tunnel is 456m long with three lanes.
Since October 2024, the construction package of the HC2 underpass (right branch from District 7 to Binh Chanh) has been completed and opened to traffic, effectively reducing traffic pressure, especially during rush hour.
Currently, the construction package of the HC1 underpass is being accelerated to ensure traffic opening on December 31 as planned.
Machinery and equipment are constructing the final items of HC1 branch.
A representative of the Traffic Construction Investment Management Board (Traffic Board) said that the HC1 underpass construction package has completed the structural construction of the open tunnel sections and the closed tunnel sections. At the same time, the temporary road items, cutting down and relocating affected trees within the project area, have been completed.
According to records, there are always more than a hundred engineers, workers and machinery working continuously at the construction site. Over the past few days, the contractor has been working in three shifts to ensure the goal of finishing the project in 2024.
HC1 underpass is 98m long, of which the closed tunnel over metro line 4 is 40m long; the open tunnel section on the Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone side is 180m long, and the National Highway 1 side (towards Binh Chanh district) is 178m long.
Previously, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee conducted a survey at the construction site and requested the investor to urge and direct contractors to mobilize human resources and appropriate equipment for construction, to compensate for the delayed progress; urgently complete all remaining items of the project; develop a detailed plan on the completion time and ensure the entire route is open to traffic in 2024.
In addition, the city leaders also requested the investor to work with the City Power Corporation, the City Power Distribution Project Management Board, and Tan Thuan Power Company to speed up the construction of the transformer station (capacity equivalent to 400kVA), ensuring a stable and long-term power supply to serve the operation of the project's pumping station, lighting, and camera systems.
During the remaining construction period of the project, the City Police and the South Saigon Traffic Police Team are also assigned to coordinate with the Traffic Department to support traffic regulation in the project construction area, ensuring convenient and safe traffic.
When the two underpasses at this intersection are completed, it will create favorable conditions for people to travel. Together with Rach Dia Bridge (opened to traffic) and Phuoc Long Bridge (about to open to traffic), the traffic picture in the South of Ho Chi Minh City will have many positive changes, increasing connectivity for economic and social development.
