Camera: Hoi An chicken rice restaurant owner points, customer throws plate on the floor

The owner of An Hien chicken rice restaurant aggressively pointed and cursed at the customer.

On the morning of June 14, Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee - said that he was still waiting for the results of the investigation and verification of the case of the owner of An Hien chicken rice restaurant swearing at a female tourist that happened a few days ago.

In the minutes of the meeting with Son Phong ward, Ms. Truong Thi Thu Hien - owner of An Hien chicken rice restaurant (Ly Thuong Kiet street) - explained that the customer had called to order food for the group. But her husband answered the phone and did not report back, leaving her unaware.

When the guests arrived, the two sides had an argument. Mrs. Hien said the incident was just a misunderstanding and she learned from her experience in speaking.

Son Phong Ward Chairman Luong Hong Linh said that Ms. Hien's behavior and swearing were not in line with the spirit of the "kind and gentle" tourist city of Hoi An. Therefore, it is necessary to learn from experience in behaving and speaking with guests.

To clarify the matter, Son Phong Ward asked Ms. Hien to provide a clip from a security camera. In the more than 2-minute video that Ms. Hien sent to the authorities, the female tourist entered the chicken rice restaurant and sat waiting at the table.

Ms. Hien and the waiter discussed something but did not receive the female tourist's consent.

The two sides argued back and forth, the customer sitting at the table jumped up, threw the plate on the table to the ground, then stood and pointed at Mrs. Hien who was chopping chicken. The two sides continued to argue.

In a clip posted online at the same time, Ms. Hien swears and points her finger at the female tourist. A moment later, the tourist leaves.

Will clarify and handle strictly

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of June 14, Hoi An city leaders said the incident occurred due to Ms. Hien's inappropriate behavior.

Ms. Hien also admitted her mistake and said that it would not happen again, affecting efforts to build Hoi An's image.

However, to be clearer, Hoi An City leaders requested Son Phong ward to verify carefully with all parties; extract camera footage, work with witnesses and find a way to contact the female tourist who was scolded by Ms. Hien for cross-examination.

"The city does not accept such ugly behavior. When there are clear verification results, we will take appropriate measures depending on the severity to protect the image of Hoi An tourism," said the leader of Hoi An City.
