The Quang Phuc Ward government (Ba Don Town, Quang Binh) has organized a dialogue and committed to building a new Tan My satellite school with parents, but will still require 154 students to temporarily study at the new school.
On February 20, the People's Committee of Quang Phuc Ward (Ba Don Town) announced that on February 18, the local government held a dialogue with parents of Tan My students to find a solution to bring them back to school after the Lunar New Year holiday. However, after the discussion, there was still no consensus between the parties.
Dialogue between government and local people
The dialogue took place at Primary School No. 1 of Quang Phuc Ward with the participation of leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Ba Don Town, Quang Phuc Ward authorities, the school's Board of Directors, homeroom teachers and more than 100 parents of students at Tan My satellite school. Here, the parents expressed their desire to keep the satellite school, and disagreed with the plan to transfer students to the main school.
In response to parents’ concerns, Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Phuc Ward, announced the conclusion of the Quang Binh Department of Construction on the deterioration of the school in Tan My. Accordingly, the school’s facilities are no longer safe and must be closed.
However, many parents still oppose the relocation plan, and at the same time ask the government to find a repair solution so that students can continue to study on site.
Tan My satellite school
As Thanh Nien reported, since the Lunar New Year holiday, 154 students from Tan My school have not returned to school. After a week off, only one second grader has come to class. Parents said that moving to the main school would cause many difficulties because most of the students live with their grandparents and their parents work far away.
Since 2019, the locality has allocated funds to repair the satellite school according to the wishes of the people. However, at present, the infrastructure has seriously degraded and cannot be used anymore. Therefore, the local government affirmed that moving students to the main school is a necessary measure to ensure safety.
The leaders of Ba Don town and Quang Phuc ward agreed with the parents’ long-term wish to maintain the satellite school. However, in the immediate future, moving students to the main school is a must to ensure safe learning conditions, while the plan to repair or build a new school is still waiting for funding.
