(Dan Tri) - Regarding the case of 154 students in Quang Binh not going to school after Tet, listening to the thoughts and wishes of parents, the local government is planning to rebuild the satellite school.

On February 21, Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Phuc Ward, Ba Don Town (Quang Binh) confirmed that the locality is researching to rebuild classrooms at Tan My school, belonging to Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1.

According to Mr. Thanh, the People's Committee of Quang Phuc ward will complete related procedures to submit to competent authorities for approval in March.

Tan My school is where 154 students did not come to class after Tet holiday, the reason being that parents objected to transferring students from this school to the main school about 2km away.

Mr. Phan Tien Lam, Principal of Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1, said that despite the school and local efforts to persuade, only one student has returned to school.

Previously, the school had considered a temporary plan to organize online learning for students who had not yet come to class. However, this did not receive the agreement of parents, so it was left open.

In a dialogue with the leaders of Quang Phuc ward on the afternoon of February 18, parents insisted on reopening the new Tan My school so they could send their children to class. However, the local government and the school could not fulfill this wish because the Tan My school was too degraded and unsafe.

Leaders of Quang Phuc ward are mobilizing parents to send their children to study at the main campus of Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1 to ensure the rights of students and create conditions for dismantling and constructing classrooms when the project is approved.

As Dan Tri reported, two rows of classrooms at Tan My school were built in 1994, are now dilapidated, have leaky tile roofs and are often flooded during the rainy season.

Faced with this situation, local authorities have directed the school to close the Tan My satellite school in January and transfer students to the main school to ensure safety.

The local government has established 6 working groups with more than 40 people from forces such as police, border guards, women's union, veterans' association, youth union... to mobilize, but so far the expected results have not been achieved.

According to Mr. Phan Tien Lam, Principal of Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1, the school has sent 6 homeroom teachers to participate in 6 local working groups, going to each house to mobilize, but parents still do not agree, leading to continued stagnation in students' learning.

At the end of 2024, the Ba Don town government invited the specialized agency of the Quang Binh Department of Construction to inspect the construction quality at Tan My school and Quang Phuc Primary School No. 1.

The inspection results showed that the classrooms at Tan My school did not meet the requirements for normal use, and there was a local dangerous situation.

Ba Don town is balancing funds to rebuild Tan My school, but it could take a whole year. To ensure the safety of students and teachers, the immediate solution is to move them back to the main school.
