According to iDropnews , current reports suggest that iOS 17 won’t have any major features, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be interesting. In other words, it will come with some small quality-of-life improvements and fun things for users. Here are some speculations about what could be coming to iOS 17 based on what Twitter user analyst941, who has a pretty good track record of making accurate predictions, shared.
Can iOS 17 be compatible with iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X?
Performance, efficiency and stability
Unsurprisingly, iOS 17 mostly improves things, but the interesting detail from analyst941 is that the operating system will work with all the same devices as iOS 16. That means the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X will still be supported instead of being removed as some recent rumors have suggested.
The reason, as explained, is because Apple wants to focus on long-term support for older devices. analyst941 notes that some of these may have trouble running the iOS 17 beta due to limited RAM, but that will be resolved with the final release.
Change Control Center
There are also some important changes coming to Control Center, with a revamped interface design and more customization options. As we all know, Control Center has been a static feature for the past few years, with most elements in fixed positions that users can’t change. While the bottom section allows you to add, remove, or rearrange some custom controls via the Settings app, there’s no way to do this directly in Control Center.
Control Center system will change in iOS 17
Customizing Control Center directly is similar to how it works on the Home screen, which would make Control Center more efficient, along with the ability to move around any icon. It's also possible that Apple will open up support for third-party apps to drop their own icons into it.
Dynamic Island Expansion
With Dynamic Island expected to appear across the entire iPhone 15 lineup, Apple may want to expand its capabilities, and the company's marketing department is pressuring the development team to do exactly that to "boost iPhone 15 sales."
As a result, people will see more notifications when using Dynamic Island, and Apple may even choose to put Siri on there, especially since Apple already does that with pop-ups for things like Face ID.
Many other changes
While analyst941 didn't provide many specifics, he also listed nearly a dozen other changes that could be coming to iOS 17, including significant improvements to the built-in Search and Spotlight features, CarKey improvements and more vehicle support in the Wallet app, UI changes to the Health app, changes to the Camera app, custom accessibility settings, more Focus filters and Always On display settings, and a number of changes to the notification system.
Many other interesting small changes are also coming to Apple's upcoming mobile operating system.
Notably, the Camera app changes are said to be limited to iPhone 15 models, even the iPhone 15 Pro.
The report also notes “an absolutely massive amount” of ARKit APIs and frameworks for augmented reality apps in iOS 17. This could be related to Apple’s much-rumored headset and the new “realityOS.”
