Recognizing the value of coffee, in 2017, the province established a Coffee Association and connected coffee growers with businesses and cooperatives. Some businesses and cooperatives have linked with people to build coffee material areas associated with processing and consuming products, such as Bich Thao Coffee Cooperative, Ara-Tay Coffee Cooperative, Minh Tien Coffee Import-Export Company Limited, and Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company.

To enhance the value of Arabica coffee, on March 1, 2021, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 331/QD-UBND on the Project on developing coffee material areas associated with processing and environmental protection in the province. On May 11, 2023, the Provincial Party Standing Committee issued Conclusion No. 863-KL/TU on production, processing and consumption of high-tech coffee on the basis of linking production and consumption of coffee products associated with coffee processing facilities and factories in the province by 2030, with the goal of "Strongly developing the coffee processing industry, with a diverse product structure and high quality".

At the end of 2022, Son La province recognized 2 high-tech coffee growing areas in 18 villages in 3 communes: Chieng Ban, Chieng Chung, Chieng Dong of Mai Son district with an area of 1,039 hectares, 1,560 participating households. In 2022, the whole province exported over 28,800 tons of coffee beans to the EU, North America, the United States, and Middle Eastern countries, worth 82.3 million USD. In 2023, it is expected to export 31,500 tons, with an export value of 83.1 million USD.
