(Dan Tri) - Malaysian media reported that the country's national team was given a capital of up to 169 billion VND, with the goal of defeating the Vietnamese team in 2025.

Vietnam and Malaysia are in Group F of the 3rd qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. This group also has two other teams, Laos and Nepal.

According to the regulations of the 2027 Asian Cup, only the top teams of the third qualifying round will qualify for the final round (along with the 18 teams that already have tickets, which are the 18 teams participating in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia).

Therefore, the Vietnamese and Malaysian teams will fiercely compete for the top position in Group F, along with a ticket to the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Vietnam is the current AFF Cup champion, while Malaysia was eliminated in the group stage of this tournament. Therefore, in the minds of Malaysian football managers, they need to invest heavily to change the situation and defeat the Vietnam team.

Recently, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced that they will invest up to 30 million ringgit (about 169 billion VND) in the Malaysian team to improve the quality of Harimau Malaya (nickname of the Malaysian national team) in 2025.

This amount includes 15 million ringgit from the budget and 15 million ringgit from the socialization (private sector) of Malaysian football. This amount is so large that it has surprised some media in Southeast Asia.

Thailand's leading sports daily Siam Sport commented: "The Vietnamese team may be stunned. The Malaysian team has been "funded" up to 30 million ringgit (about 231 million baht, or about 169 billion VND) to build a strong Malaysian national team."

A total of 30 million ringgit was used by FAM to hire foreign coaches for the national team, pay for additional naturalized players, train, purchase equipment and compete in the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

For now, after having the money, the Malaysian team has hired a foreign coach, Mr. Peter Cklamovski (an Australian of Macedonian origin, who previously led Tokyo FC and Shimizu S-Pulse in Japan's J-League). The team has also recruited a series of new naturalized players, with 7 new names announced just a few days ago.

The 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers will take place from March 25, 2025 to March 31, 2026. Each group in the third qualifying round will have 6 matches, of which 5 matches will take place in 2025, with only one match taking place in 2026.

The Vietnamese team will visit Malaysia on June 10. Then, on March 31, 2026, we will host Malaysia in the second leg at home.
