Regarding the incident in which 37 people, including 33 students from Tan Tuc Secondary School, Binh Chanh District (Ho Chi Minh City), had stomachaches, vomited, and were hospitalized while playing at Dam Sen Cultural Park, suspected to be due to eating bread, the leaders of the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) issued urgent instructions.
Accordingly, the Food Safety Department requested the Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department to direct relevant hospitals to focus all resources on actively treating patients, not to affect the health and lives of patients. In case of necessity, they can request support for professional consultation with higher-level hospitals.
At the same time, relevant agencies organized an investigation to clearly determine the cause of the suspected poisoning, trace the origin of the food suspected of causing the poisoning, and take food and medical samples for testing to find the cause.
"Temporarily suspend the operation of establishments suspected of causing poisoning, investigate the implementation of food safety regulations of the establishments, strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicize the results to promptly warn the community," the official dispatch of the Food Safety Department stated.
The leader of District 11 Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) said that of the 37 patients, 33 were aged 13-15, one was 6 years old and 3 were adults. Patients suspected of food poisoning were given antibiotics, rehydration, and symptomatic treatment.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Khanh Phong Lan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety, said the suspected food poisoning was bread purchased in District 6. Authorities have taken samples for testing to clarify the cause and are awaiting results.
