Representing the leaders of Can Tho City, Mr. Tran Viet Truong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City read the letter of greetings for Chol Chnam Thmay 2024 from the Prime Minister to the Khmer people, comrades and monks and the letter of greetings for Chol Chnam Thmay 2024 from the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City to the Most Venerables, Venerables, Monks, Achas, cadres, civil servants, public employees, soldiers and Khmer people of Can Tho City.
Attending and delivering a congratulatory speech, Minister and Head of the UDDT Hau A Lenh said that the Party and State always pay attention to directing, implementing drastically, and concretizing into plans and action programs to carry out ethnic work and ethnic policies in general and for the Khmer ethnic people in particular, specifically: Conclusion 65-KL/TW dated October 30, 2019 of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW of the 9th Party Central Committee on ethnic work in the new situation; Resolution No. 10/NQ-CP of the Government promulgating the Ethnic Work Strategy for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Minister and Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Hau A Lenh stated that the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year, a unique cultural feature of the Khmer people, is the biggest festival of the year with special significance, starting the new year with faith, aspirations, and wishes for good things, a prosperous and happy life; it is also an occasion to celebrate the New Year, show filial piety, report achievements, and pay respect to ancestors. On April 1, 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a letter of congratulations to the Khmer people, comrades, and monks on the occasion of the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay New Year 2024.
The joy was multiplied when the Party Committee, the government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City organized the Meeting, which was even more meaningful, as Can Tho City, as the center and driving force of the Mekong Delta region, has 27 ethnic minority groups living with over 23,691 people, is home to many Khmer intellectuals and scholars; the city has 12 Khmer pagodas and 1 Khmer Theravada Buddhist Academy. In particular, Can Tho City was honored to receive Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW issued by the Politburo on August 5, 2020 on the construction and development of Can Tho City to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
Minister and Chairman Hau A Lenh said that with the attention of the Party, State, all levels, sectors, and localities, the sharing and support of the social community, the socio-economic situation and life of ethnic minorities, including the Khmer people, have had new developments, the material and spiritual life of the people continues to improve, and the rural landscape is increasingly prosperous.

Minister and Chairman Hau A Lenh said that although the socio-economic situation of ethnic minority areas in general and the life and production of a part of Khmer ethnic people in particular still face many difficulties, with the city's revolutionary tradition, under the leadership of the Party and State, directly under the leadership of the City Party Committee and People's Committee of Can Tho City, and the efforts of the entire political system, Can Tho will have a breakthrough development, continuing to implement well the ethnic and religious policies...
