Tich Dien Doi Son Festival 2025 takes place on the morning of February 4

At the Tich Dien festival, the organizers performed the incense offering ceremony at the altar of the god of agriculture, the spirit tablet of King Le and the gods of fortune. After that, the elder Nguyen Ngoc An (75 years old) dressed in a dragon robe and mask, performed the ritual of entering the king's spirit, stepped down and plowed the first plows to open the Tich Dien festival.

The elders plowed 3 fields, the leaders of Ha Nam province plowed 5 fields, the leaders of Duy Tien town, Tien Son commune and the elders plowed the next fields to start a new production year. Following them was a group of young men and women sowing seeds, including green beans, peanuts and rice.

Sharing with Thanh Nien , elder Nguyen Ngoc An said that although this is the 6th year he has been chosen to play the role of King Le Dai Hanh, he is still "surprised and worried".

Mr. An still remembers clearly the first time his name was called to put on the royal robe to plow the fields. The night before the main ceremony, he was so nervous that he couldn’t sleep. Then, with the encouragement of his family and local leaders, he felt more confident and successfully carried it out for the first time in the spring of 2019.

Elder Nguyen Ngoc An walked down to the field and plowed three fields.

"I still remember clearly the first time I played the role of king in the Tich Dien festival. When the festival ended, I received compliments, encouragement and support from everyone, I felt very honored and proud," he said.

According to historical records, the Tich Dien festival originated when King Le Dai Hanh came to the foot of Doi mountain to perform the plowing ceremony (Tich Dien) in the spring of Dinh Hoi year, the 7th year of Thien Phuc (987). Since then, this festival has become a beautiful custom, solemnly and respectfully performed by later dynasties.

However, over time, the Tich Dien festival gradually faded away and was restored in 2009 on a large scale, attracting a large number of people and tourists from all over.

The festival recreates the tradition of "using agriculture as the foundation" to encourage agricultural production. Not only praying for favorable weather, good crops, the festival also aims to arouse the people's attachment and love for their homeland and educate the younger generation about national cultural traditions.
