In the 42nd minute, Rafaelson passed the ball with the outside of his foot to Pham Van Thanh who rushed down. Goalkeeper Van Viet collided with his teammate, causing the ball to drift away, allowing Van Thanh to finish into an empty net. However, referee Tran Dinh Thinh blew the whistle and did not recognize the goal for Binh Dinh, when he saw assistant Pham Hoai Tam raise the flag for offside. Slow motion on television afterwards showed that Van Thanh was not offside and did not cause the collision between the two SLNA players.

Before that, the match at Vinh Stadium in round 12 of V-League 2023 was exciting with an open game. The first threat to the goal belonged to SLNA in the 10th minute. Binh Dinh goalkeeper Dang Van Lam had to use his foot to block Xuan Manh's close-range shot after a good combination with Michael Olaha.
After that, Binh Dinh continuously pressed with Rafaelson's shot hitting the crossbar and Trinh Duc Loi's long-range shot, forcing goalkeeper Van Viet to struggle to block. In the 30th minute, SLNA's goalkeeper chose an unreasonable landing point, allowing Duc Loi to have a chance to shoot into an empty net, but Tran Dinh Hoang quickly ran back and used his heel to clear the ball before the goal line. SLNA responded with Olaha's volley from the edge of the penalty area into the right corner, but Van Lam was able to fly to block the ball.

In the second half, Binh Dinh got into better rhythm with many attacks. In the 49th minute, Ha Duc Chinh exchanged passes well with Rafaelon before crossing for Van Thanh to finish. The ball went into the net but the referee disallowed it and gave Van Thanh a yellow card for using his hand to finish. The rest of the second half saw many opportunities but both teams' attackers could not take advantage, accepting a 0-0 draw.
This is Binh Dinh’s fifth consecutive winless match, including three draws. After 12 rounds, they are still in seventh place with 16 points, equal to Hai Phong and Nam Dinh but with a different goal difference. Meanwhile, SLNA is in 10th place with 13 points and three points away from the top 8.
