17/20 elementary schools in the district participated
17 films by students from 17 public primary schools in Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City were screened at the district-level English talent contest with the theme: "My Hometown, My Inspiration: A Primary Student Film Festival in English" organized by the Department of Education and Training of Tan Phu District and awarded prizes on the morning of March 29.
These are films that were conceived, acted, written, directed, produced, etc. by elementary school students and teachers.
Notably, in the films written, directed, and acted by students and teachers themselves, the beauty of the homeland, country, and people of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City appears simple yet passionate, rustic yet lyrical.
It is a heroic Tan Phu with pride in Phu Tho Hoa tunnel - a national historical and cultural relic. A shared Tet with family gatherings and reunions with traditional beauty. It is also humanity, the rise, the awareness of students "young age doing small things"...
Ms. Luong Thi Thanh Ly - principal of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School, Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City, the unit that made the film "By Chance" - said this was the first time students, teachers and the school participated in making a film.
"Everything was new and unfamiliar, but the happiest thing was that after the film, students, teachers, and the school felt like they had learned, experienced, and gained more skills... and felt that the love for the homeland, people, and educational lessons that the school showed in the film were spreading to many places, becoming a source of spiritual encouragement for teachers and students of the school," said Ms. Thanh Ly.
Nguyen Quoc Tuan - a 5th grade student at Phan Chu Trinh Primary School, who plays the role of Ti in the movie "By Chance" - shared that the days filming were really fun for him.
"My co-stars and I rehearsed many times, rehearsing lines over and over again. Filming this film was only done outside of class time, so I went to school and participated in acting and filming at the same time. It was a bit tiring, but I had a lot of fun and learned a lot of things," Tuan said.
Bring English into life
According to Mr. Phan Si Dat - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Tan Phu district, this year's contest has 17/20 primary schools in the area participating. The contest theme is implemented according to the guidelines for the "Primary School English Talent" contest of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
"I was surprised by the films made by students and teachers. Students demonstrated good English speaking skills and the ability to act gracefully and flexibly. Many films were highly appreciated by the organizers for the quality of dialogue, technical staging, language performance, and acting," Mr. Dat commented.
According to Mr. Dat, the contest aims to train students in more skills in using English flexibly, bringing English into life and culture as well as helping them understand more about the role of students.
"Through making a film in English with the theme "My Homeland, Inspiration", the children not only practice English but also learn to express their love and pride for their homeland and country, thereby deepening the identity of the people of modern, affectionate Ho Chi Minh City," Mr. Dat emphasized.
