Developing brands for local agricultural products
Bao Loc City is a land with natural conditions suitable for growing many types of industrial crops and fruit trees such as tea, coffee, mulberry, jackfruit, durian, mangosteen, avocado... These are crops with high economic value and imbued with the cultural and historical identity of the famous B'Lao land.
To increase the value of agricultural products and promote sustainable rural economic development, Bao Loc city has implemented the OCOP program in a scientific and methodical manner.
To date, the city has deployed the OCOP program to the People's Committees of 11 wards and communes. The Council for evaluating and classifying OCOP products of Bao Loc city in the period of 2023 - 2025 has evaluated 15 products of 9 units according to the set of criteria for evaluating and classifying products of the program, one product per commune.
Of these, 2 products achieved 4-star OCOP, 13 products achieved 3-star OCOP. OCOP products are typical rural products, typical agricultural products of the locality. Each product is considered a tourism ambassador. Therefore, Bao Loc city also focuses on building brands for OCOP products.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue - owner of Danh Tra Lan Huong Van Huong (Bao Loc city) said: "The fact that products are recognized as OCOP has opened up many advantages for development. For example, increasing the reputation of the product, more people know the product... From there, trading the product is also easier".
“Our tea and coffee brands have been around for decades. But when our products were recognized as meeting OCOP quality standards, it created more trust among customers and our product brands became much more reputable,” Ms. Hue added.
Trade promotion, advertising and introducing OCOP products
According to Bao Loc City People's Committee, the OCOP products that the city chooses are high quality products with high usage value and especially create many jobs for many local workers.
On the other hand, these products also open up the potential for production development, market expansion, and meeting the tastes of domestic and foreign consumers. Thereby, contributing to promoting the city's economy quickly and sustainably.
However, the OCOP program is a new program, so coordination and synchronous implementation among departments, organizations and production entities are still low.
Up to now, the implementation of the program has encountered some difficulties. For example, the subjects have not yet identified the benefits of participating in the program and have not really determined to participate in the program.
Besides, the propaganda work about the OCOP program has not been promoted because the knowledge and qualifications of the staff are still new and not convincing; the dossier is also large so the subjects are still hesitant...
In order for the OCOP program to further develop, the leaders of the Economic Department of Bao Loc City have proposed that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development create conditions to invite experts on the OCOP program to support the locality in propaganda activities and product introduction...
Mr. Nguyen Van Nham - Head of Economic Department of Bao Loc city shared, The goal of the program is to support, build, develop, evaluate, classify and certify at least 10 products recognized as OCOP products each year.
"In addition, the locality will promote trade promotion activities and introduce OCOP products," Mr. Nham added.
