According to the General Statistics Office, Ministry of Finance announced, average monthly income of workers increased compared to the previous quarter and increased in most localities and economic sectors. |
Specifically, in the first quarter of 2025, the average monthly income of workers continued to improve, reaching VND 8.3 million, an increase of VND 131,000 compared to the previous quarter and VND 720,000 compared to the same period last year, equivalent to an increase of 1.6% and 9.5%. The average monthly income of workers in urban areas is 1.39 times higher than that of rural areas (VND 10.1 million compared to VND 7.2 million).
By socio-economic region, compared to the same period last year, the average income of workers in the first quarter increased in all regions of the country; in which, the North Central and Central Coast regions and the Red River Delta were the two regions recording high average income growth rates.
Specifically, the average monthly income of workers in the North Central and Central Coast regions reached 7.3 million VND, an increase of 11.7% over the same period last year.
Also compared to the same period last year, some provinces in this region recorded high average monthly income growth rates such as: in Nghe An province it was 7.2 million VND, an increase of 24.1% (equivalent to an increase of 1.4 million VND); in Thanh Hoa it was 7.8 million VND, an increase of 15.6% (equivalent to an increase of 1.1 million VND); in Quang Binh it was 7 million VND, an increase of 14.2% (equivalent to an increase of 871 thousand VND).
In the Red River Delta, the average monthly income of workers reached 9.8 million VND, an increase of 9.5% over the same period last year (equivalent to an increase of 851,000 VND). Some provinces recorded high growth rates in average monthly income, such as: Hung Yen 9.2 million VND, an increase of 11.5% (equivalent to an increase of 949,000 VND); Vinh Phuc 9.9 million VND, an increase of 11.5% (equivalent to an increase of 1 million VND); Hai Duong 8.8 million VND, an increase of 10.6% (equivalent to an increase of 841,000 VND).
Compared to the same period last year, the average monthly income of workers in the first quarter increased in three economic sectors. Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector had the highest increase, reaching 4.9 million VND, up 9.8% (equivalent to an increase of 434,000 VND) compared to the same period last year. The service sector reached 9.9 million VND, up 9.2% (equivalent to an increase of 832,000 VND); the industry and construction sector reached 9.1 million VND, up 8.2% (equivalent to an increase of 690,000 VND).
Some industries recorded a fairly high average income growth rate, such as: Water supply, waste management and treatment activities were 9.9 million VND, up 12%, equivalent to an increase of 1.1 million VND; production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam were 12.3 million VND, up 10.9%, equivalent to an increase of 1.2 million VND; agriculture, forestry and fishery were 4.9 million VND, up 9.8%, equivalent to an increase of 434,000 VND.
Along with that, the processing and manufacturing industry was 9.1 million VND, up 8%, equivalent to an increase of 667,000 VND; financial, banking and insurance activities were 13.9 million VND, up 6.1%, equivalent to an increase of 800,000 VND; wholesale and retail, auto, motorcycle and motorbike repair was 9.4 million VND, up 5.7%, equivalent to an increase of 508,000 VND.
The General Statistics Office also said that by the end of the first quarter, the country's employed population reached 51.9 million people, down 234,000 people, or 0.4% compared to the previous quarter, and up 532,100 people, or 1.04% compared to the same period last year.
Of which, the number of employed workers in urban areas was 20 million (accounting for 38.6%), down 115.9 thousand people compared to the previous quarter and up 433.6 thousand people compared to the same period last year; the number of employed workers in rural areas was 31.8 million people, down 118.1 thousand people compared to the previous quarter and up 98.5 thousand people compared to the same period last year.
