The Chosun daily reported that South Korean health officials confirmed on October 16 that more than 30 South Korean doctors had arrived in Ho Chi Minh City since late September to undergo a health check-up and are currently preparing to take the English entrance exam for the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
According to Chosun , for doctors from countries with high medical standards, Vietnam does not require them to submit a professional qualification test but only requires them to submit professional certificates such as a medical practice license notarized in the host country.
To obtain a license to practice in Vietnam, foreign doctors will have to undergo a medical examination and take an English entrance exam administered by medical experts in Vietnam.
Currently, the number of Korean doctors wishing to work in Vietnam is increasing, leading to a sharp increase in the number of intermediary companies specializing in processing documents and notarizing documents for doctors.
“Not only plastic surgeons and dermatologists, but also emergency doctors and dentists regularly apply for practice certificates to be able to work in Vietnam,” said a brokerage company in Korea.
Since May and June, the Vinmec healthcare system under Vingroup has recruited internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics specialists to work in Vietnam.
According to Vinmec's recruitment announcement, Korean doctors working in Vietnam will have separate working conditions and salaries. In particular, each doctor's working time is only 44 hours per week with a salary of 30 million won (nearly 22,000 USD) per month, along with a housing allowance of 1.08 million won (nearly 800 USD) per month.
With the above working conditions and salaries, many Korean doctors expressed their desire to come to Vietnam to work.
Many foreign doctors come to work in Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of October 18, a representative of the health service management department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that recently many foreign doctors have come to work in Ho Chi Minh City.
The conditions for them to work at medical facilities in the city must comply with the provisions of Decree 96/2023 of the Government (effective from January 1, 2024), which includes regulations on granting practice licenses to foreign doctors.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Khoa - Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health) - also said that not only Korean doctors, but all foreign doctors who want to practice in our country must follow the regulations in Decree 96.
