Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, said that in 2023, the Propaganda Department will contact, coordinate, and create conditions for more than 3,000 domestic reporters and nearly 200 foreign press reporters to attend and promote military and defense events and activities.
In the first 6 months of 2024, organize more than 100 reporters to join delegations to visit Truong Sa and DK1 Platform. Develop a plan to introduce more than 150 reporters to 75 military agencies and units to write propaganda articles about the Army.
Received and facilitated more than 320 reporters to report and propagate the training, preliminary and final rehearsal activities of military forces participating in the parade at the 70th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.
In the first 6 months of 2024 alone, there were more than 18,000 news articles and propaganda articles about military and national defense in the press.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Gau commented that the team of specialized reporters of press agencies has become increasingly professional. Many reporters have not been afraid of difficulties and hardships; have always devoted themselves to accompanying officers and soldiers.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that from January 1, 2023 to now, the press has had 147,000 news articles, with a high level of dissemination about the achievements and growth of the Vietnam People's Army.
The Army currently has 51 press agencies and over 600 reporters with press cards. This is an important force of the Vietnamese revolutionary press. The Army's press agencies include all types, playing an important role in the revolutionary press in particular and in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in general.
The Minister emphasized that the Army press has made many contributions to the education, politics and ideology work of the entire army; its content has many values spreading in society such as: activities to fight against peaceful evolution, against bad and toxic information; articles to encourage and motivate typical and advanced factors in the patriotic emulation movement.
Revolutionary press honestly reflects the mainstream of Vietnamese society, creates social consensus and trust, spreads positive energy, uses beauty to eliminate ugliness, fuels the aspiration for a strong and prosperous Vietnam, and creates spiritual strength to realize the goal of Vietnam becoming a high-income developed country by 2045.
The press is the main and shock propaganda force... “Previously, the weapon was paper and pen, but now there is also technology, mainly digital technology. Previously, press agencies wrote articles, now press agencies create digital platforms for many people to participate in writing articles. And the digital platform is technology. Previously, only the press wrote articles, now many people write online, so the press must have tools and technology to evaluate information trends and people's moods on cyberspace to write articles to guide public opinion. And that is technology,” the Minister affirmed.
To transform digitally, according to the Minister, the Army's press agencies need to invest. The Army is modernizing, and one of the forces that needs to be modernized is the Army's press. He also said that investing in digital technology is not large, does not cost much, but the efficiency is very great.
The Ministry of Information and Communications pledges to accompany and support the Army in modernizing the press.
On behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang thanked the Central agencies and press agencies for always paying attention to coordinating, helping, accompanying, reporting and propagating promptly and effectively the results of performing military and defense tasks, and building the People's Army in the new situation.
Reiterating the statement that "culture lights the way for the nation, if culture exists, the nation exists", the Minister affirmed the importance of the press and mass media.
Reviewing the historical process, the Minister of Defense shared that during the days of battle, along with the Army, journalists also volunteered after the commander's orders. He cited the frontline editorial office in the Dien Bien Phu campaign. Soldiers on the battlefield with weapons and equipment, journalists and reporters with cameras, video cameras, and pens conveyed information from the past, present to the future.
General Phan Van Giang hopes that press agencies will continue to closely coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense to promote and improve the effectiveness of propaganda work; coordinate well in providing guidance, providing information, and promptly and closely handling important issues, not allowing hostile and reactionary forces to take advantage of the situation to incite and sabotage the Party, State, and Army.
The Ministry of National Defense continues to direct agencies and units throughout the army to coordinate and create conditions for news agencies and the press to provide timely and effective information and propaganda.
The Minister said that in the last 6 months of the year, the entire army will promote the organization of many events and activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day, so the cooperation and contribution of the press is needed.
