Decisions about how AI is used and regulated will play a decisive role in shaping the future. That is also why Vietnam has chosen the theme of the 2nd Vietnam International Digital Week as “Narrow-area AI applications”.
The information was shared at the Ministerial Roundtable Conference - The 2nd Vietnam International Digital Week held in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province on the morning of December 12. The special program focused on the discussion on "Development and application of narrow artificial intelligence in the digital economy".
According to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, the development of AI is both an opportunity and a challenge, and how AI is managed will shape our future. Vietnam chose the theme of Digital Week as “Narrow-area AI applications”. This is specialized and focused AI, designed and trained to solve specific tasks or a narrow group of tasks, with high efficiency within a pre-determined scope. Narrow AI is now ready for widespread application.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that the AI revolution requires governments to develop AI infrastructure, AI workforce and establish a legal framework for AI. The AI revolution brings opportunities to all countries, especially those that adapt quickly, are ready to change and embrace change.
“ In the era of AI revolution, the future is not an extension of the past. Developing countries, if they know how to seize the opportunity and effectively utilize the benefits of AI, will have the potential to develop breakthroughs and catch up with developed countries. The AI revolution also requires us to strengthen cooperation to maximize advantages and minimize risks. The AI revolution is also a long, long journey, so we need to go together .”
“ In today's world, volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, we need trust. More trust. Trust in people. Trust in each other. And trust in new technologies, like AI, ” the Minister affirmed.
In that context, Vietnam will continue to promote international cooperation in digital technology, digital economy, especially AI programs.
The 2nd Vietnam International Digital Week 2023 will take place from December 12 to 15, 2023, including a series of international conferences, seminars, and forums with the participation of representatives of management agencies, associations, and enterprises of ASEAN countries and dialogue countries, to share experiences in issues of policy making, development strategies, technology, human resources, establishing cooperative partnerships, and proposing solutions to major challenges and opportunities in the digital age for the ASEAN region and the world.
