On September 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) announced that the contractor SCC has just completed the installation of the last pedestrian bridge girder span to connect to Thu Duc station (Thu Duc city) of the urban railway line No. 1 project (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).
According to MAUR, to date, the SCC contractor has successfully installed the last two pedestrian bridge girder spans at the TH2 pier - Thu Duc station with span lengths ranging from 32 to 33.5m, and load capacity from 74.5 to 78 tons. At the same time, all nine pedestrian bridges on metro line 1 have now been connected to the elevated station.
The completion of the last girder span connection at Thu Duc station is extremely important in restoring traffic at the Thu Duc intersection area earlier than the plan to ban heavy vehicles over 5 tons from passing through the overpass area for 45 days (from July 27 to October 29).
In the coming time, MAUR said it will continue to coordinate with the Department of Transport and related units to officially announce the lifting of bans and restrictions on traffic in the Thu Duc steel overpass area.
According to the project design, the entire metro line No. 1 has 9 pedestrian bridges (including left and right branches) connecting the elevated stations along Vo Nguyen Giap street.
The pedestrian bridge is one of the final construction items of the metro line 1 project, playing an important role in ensuring safe and convenient passenger access to the elevated stations.
At the same time, the approach to the pedestrian bridge is also the main escape route for passengers in case of an emergency (fire, explosion) at these stations, which is an issue that receives special attention during the fire prevention and fighting inspection process by the authorities.
In the past time, SCC contractor has basically completed all architectural items such as floor tiles, steel frame structure, roof panels, railings, stairs at 7/9 stations: Tan Cang, Thao Dien, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai and High Technology.
Currently, SCC is striving to complete the construction of the last two pedestrian bridges at Thu Duc station and National University station in October 2024 in order to organize fire safety inspection and acceptance in time for completion and operation at the end of 2024.
Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien Metro is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, connecting the city center to the eastern gateway. The entire route has 11 elevated stations and 3 underground stations. Ho Chi Minh City is striving to put Metro No. 1 into commercial operation by the end of this year.
