Previously, on November 9, in San II village, Hoang Lien commune, Sa Pa town, Lao Cai province, a group of 7 people went to the cardamom field to pick wild mushrooms to cook dinner.
About 30 minutes after eating, poisoning occurred, so all 7 people were taken to Sa Pa General Hospital for emergency treatment by their families, so there were no deaths due to acute poisoning.

Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health added that after sending the remaining mushroom samples for testing, it was found that the type of mushroom the group of people ate had the scientific name Omphalotusnidiformis (Ghost Mushroom or Ghost Poison Mushroom) with the toxin Illudin S.
This mushroom is commonly found in the northern mountainous provinces of Vietnam and has caused many poisoning cases in Bac Kan, Son La provinces...
Mushrooms often grow on rotten trees in the forest in large clumps, in the form of fruit bodies; the mushroom cap is fan-shaped or funnel-shaped, white or cream or gray or slightly yellow (depending on the type of rotten tree the mushroom grows on), the middle of the mushroom cap is usually darker, when old the edge of the mushroom cap often rolls down, the diameter of the cap is 2-10 cm (depending on whether the mushroom is young or mature and depending on the nutrients in the rotten wood); the mushroom gills are white to slightly yellow, slightly gray; the mushroom stem is often attached to the cap, 2 - 4 cm long; the mushroom flesh is white; this mushroom glows at night when it is humid, after a rain.
The toxin in the ghost mushroom is illudin. This is a luminescent substance, also known as phosphorescent (glow in the dark).
This is a type of mushroom that causes digestive disorders and is not fatal. The first symptoms appear about 30 minutes to 3 hours after eating mushrooms (depending on the amount of mushrooms eaten and the amount of food eaten) such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain (causing spasms, stimulating the digestive tract). The special thing about this type of mushroom is that it usually does not cause diarrhea.
Lao Cai Province Health Department recommends that if people accidentally eat the above mushroom, they should be made to vomit by their family and taken to the nearest medical facility for emergency treatment. Usually, the patient will recover within 3-5 days. People should not pick strange mushrooms or mushrooms that are not known to be edible.
