On July 13, the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) held an online conference to review the work of the first 6 months of 2024 for the traffic police force nationwide.
At the conference, Major General Nguyen Van Trung (Director of the Traffic Police Department) informed that over the past six months, the traffic police force has inspected and handled more than 2.1 million cases of violations of road, rail and waterway traffic safety, thereby imposing fines of more than VND 4,000 billion; revoking more than 400,000 driving licenses, certificates and professional certificates. Of the more than 2.1 million violations, there were more than 500,000 cases of drivers violating alcohol concentration and nearly 3,000 drivers tested positive for drugs.
Also in the first 6 months of the year, there were more than 12,300 accidents nationwide, killing more than 5,300 people. The police have prosecuted 16 related cases with more than 170 subjects. In the remaining 6 months of 2024, the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security requested that the national traffic police force continue to have solutions to reduce traffic congestion and accidents, step up alcohol and drug testing, and apply digital technology to handle cases.
