Ho Chi Minh City: In 6 options, the consultant proposed to build Can Gio bridge connecting Highway 15B in Nha Be and then crossing the river to the island district with a length of 7.3 km, total capital of more than 10,500 billion VND.
The Can Gio Bridge construction project is being completed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, preparing a report for the City People's Committee to review before submitting it to the People's Council for approval of the investment policy at the year-end meeting. The project is expected to start in 2025 and be completed after 3 years.
According to the pre-feasibility study report, the consulting unit proposed 6 route options for the construction of Can Gio bridge, including: three connecting directions from Highway 15B (parallel to Huynh Tan Phat Street which has been planned in Phu Xuan urban area, Nha Be district), then crossing Soai Rap river to Rung Sac Street, Can Gio district; three other options, the bridge's approach road connects to Huynh Tan Phat Street.

Of these, the two proposed options for consideration are 4A and 4B (similar route directions), with the starting point connecting to Road 15B. This is also the direction previously chosen by the City People's Committee and approved by the Prime Minister to be added to the local traffic planning.
Accordingly, the Can Gio bridge project has a total length of 7.3 km. The bridge approach road will run along route 15B, about 500 m from Muong Ngang canal, then cross Nguyen Binh street and cross Soai Rap river. When entering Can Gio, the bridge will connect to Rung Sac street at a location about 2.5 km south of Binh Khanh ferry. The difference between options 4A and 4B is the location of the approach road on the riverbank on the Nha Be side.
Also following this connection direction, there is another option 2A - Can Gio bridge connecting to 15B road then crossing Nguyen Binh road near Ba Xu temple area. After that, the bridge will cross Soai Rap river through Can Gio, continue to cross Cha river and then connect to Rung Rac road.
The remaining three options include: Option 1, Can Gio bridge starts from Huynh Tan Phat street, close to Phu My Thuan apartment building. When reaching Phu Xuan Secondary School, it will change direction to X51 factory of Hai Minh Shipbuilding and Repairing Company Limited. Then, the bridge will cross Soai Rap river through Can Gio district, connecting to Rung Sac street, Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway.
Option 2, the approach road to Can Gio bridge starts from Huynh Tan Phat street, then crosses Nguyen Binh street and goes towards Phuoc Nguyen pagoda. From here, the bridge crosses Soai Rap river in the direction of option 2A; Option 3, the approach road follows Huynh Tan Phat street, close to Phu My Thuan apartment building. When reaching Phu Xuan Secondary School, the project goes towards Ba Chau Doc 2 temple and then crosses Soai Rap river. When reaching Can Gio, the bridge's direction is similar to option 2A.

According to the design, Can Gio Bridge is built in the form of a cable-stayed bridge, with 6 lanes (4 motorized lanes, 2 non-motorized lanes), and a speed of 60 km/h. In addition to the main bridge, the project also includes a number of small bridges over the Cha River, the Tac River Cha and the Muong Ngang Canal Bridge.
The project is proposed to be invested in the form of BOT (build - operate - transfer) with a total capital of more than 10,500 billion VND (excluding interest). Of which, the budget contributes nearly 50%, the rest is capital mobilized by the investor.
Currently, the traffic connection between Can Gio district and Ho Chi Minh City's inner city is mainly via Binh Khanh ferry, which is already seriously overloaded. When completed, Can Gio Bridge, in addition to replacing this ferry terminal, will meet the travel demand, especially when Ho Chi Minh City is researching the construction of an international transit port and a coastal urban area in Can Gio in the future.
