Proposal to study the construction of a metro line connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City - Can Gio

(NLDO) - The implementation of the metro line combined with the construction of Can Gio bridge is expected to complete the urban transport network and promote economic development.

Vingroup has just proposed to pay all costs to conduct research and develop an investment plan for a metro line connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City and Can Gio District. This proposal has received attention from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the agency responsible for evaluating related proposals.

Perspective of Can Gio Bridge, Ho Chi Minh City

According to Vingroup, Ho Chi Minh City is currently adjusting its master plan until 2040 and orientation to 2060. One of the contents of the plan is to add an urban railway connecting the city center to Can Gio district. This is in line with the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee to improve infrastructure connectivity between key areas.

In parallel, Ho Chi Minh City has planned to start construction of Can Gio Bridge on April 30 and is expected to be completed in 2028. This bridge will replace Binh Khanh ferry - currently the only means of transport connecting Can Gio with the city center. When completed, Can Gio Bridge will not only meet traffic needs but also support the development of sea encroachment projects and international transit ports in Can Gio.

Vingroup believes that investing in the construction of the metro line at the same time as the Can Gio bridge will create a synchronous and cost-saving technical infrastructure system. This will contribute to promoting traffic connections between the center of Ho Chi Minh City and Can Gio district, helping this locality develop into a new center of the city.

In a document sent to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, Vingroup pledged to use its own capital to study technical factors, project scope, investment forms and responsibilities of relevant parties. At the same time, the group also hopes that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will create favorable conditions for coordination with the Department of Transport and consulting units of the Can Gio Bridge project to ensure synchronization during the implementation process.

Vingroup affirmed that it will conduct thorough research and closely coordinate with departments, branches as well as experienced consulting units to develop the most effective plan. Once completed, this plan will be submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration and approval.

The Department of Transport said it will continue to work with Vingroup to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposal. On that basis, the Department will make recommendations to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to implement the next steps.

The implementation of the metro line combined with the construction of Can Gio Bridge is expected to complete the urban transport network, promote economic development and improve the quality of life for Ho Chi Minh City residents. This is an important step in the city's strategy for developing modern, synchronous and sustainable transport.
