In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City plans to start construction of Can Gio Bridge, Thu Thiem 4 Bridge, Nguyen Khoi Street Bridge, Binh Tien Street Bridge, and a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River, with a total capital of about VND28,000 billion.
Can Gio Bridge
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is planning to invest in the construction of Can Gio Bridge, with the goal of starting construction on April 30, 2025 and completing it in 2028.
When completed, the project will replace Binh Khanh ferry - currently the only means of transport connecting Can Gio island district with the city center, while promoting the development of sea encroachment projects and Can Gio international port.
According to the design, Can Gio Bridge crosses Soai Rap River, connecting Can Gio District with Nha Be District, with a total length of about 7.3km. Of which, the bridge over Soai Rap River is nearly 3km long, the two access roads at both ends of the bridge are 4.3km long.
The starting point of the project is located on Road 15B according to the planning, about 500m north of Muong Ngang canal. The end point of the project will connect to Rung Sac road at Km2+100 (about 2.1km south of Binh Khanh ferry terminal).
Cross-section scale of 6 lanes (4 motor lanes and 2 mixed lanes), design speed 60km/h.
The total preliminary investment of the project is about 11,087 billion VND, proposed to be invested in the form of PPP, BOT contract.
Thu Thiem Bridge 4
According to the proposal of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the Thu Thiem 4 bridge construction project will connect Thu Duc City with District 7 with a total investment of about 6,030 billion VND (including loan interest), invested in the form of BOT.
The starting point connects to Nguyen Van Linh Street at the intersection with Tan Thuan 2 Bridge approach road (District 7). The end point of the project connects to Nguyen Co Thach Street at the R4 intersection (Thu Duc City).
The entire Thu Thiem 4 Bridge construction project is approximately 2.16km long. Of which, the bridge is approximately 1,635m long, the approach roads at both ends of the bridge are approximately 525m long, designed with 6 lanes (4 motor vehicle lanes and 2 mixed vehicle lanes).
Once completed, the project will connect traffic from the center of the Thu Thiem "peninsula" to the new urban area of South Saigon (District 7), contributing to urban beautification, solving traffic congestion, and creating conditions to promote and rapidly develop the two areas.
Pedestrian bridge across Saigon River
The project to build a pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River connecting District 1 with Thu Duc City was approved by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai and added to the list of key projects of the city.
This project has a total investment of about 1,000 billion VND, sponsored by Nutifood Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company.
The bridge is 500m long, starting from Bach Dang wharf park (District 1), the starting point on the Thu Duc City side at the riverside park in Thu Thiem New Urban Area.
The pedestrian bridge is designed in the shape of a water coconut leaf, a very typical leaf of the Southern region. Ho Chi Minh City considers this a unique and impressive architectural style, expected to attract people and tourists to the city.
Recently, Nutifood Company sent a document asking for opinions to the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the City People's Committee and the Department of Transport about registering the groundbreaking date for the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River on April 26.
Nguyen Khoi Bridge and Road
In 2016, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved the plan to build a bridge on Nguyen Khoi Street across the Te Canal, connecting Districts 7, 4 and 1. The project has a total investment of 1,250 billion VND (later increased to more than 2,800 billion VND due to scale adjustment) to open a new road axis in and out of the central area. However, the project is still on paper due to lack of capital.
By the end of 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council continued to adjust the investment policy of this project, with the total capital increasing to more than VND 3,700 billion due to changes in scale. The project has a total length of nearly 5km, of which the bridge section is about 2.5km, 6.5-25.5m wide; the road section is more than 2.3km long, 26.5-61.5m wide.
The project starts from D1 Street (connecting Saigon University with Nguyen Van Linh Street and Him Lam residential area, District 7), then the main bridge crosses Te Canal by overpass along Nguyen Khoi Street. The bridge continues to cross Ben Nghe Canal, connecting to Vo Van Kiet Street (District 1).
In addition to the main route, the project includes branches connecting to the lower roads of Tran Xuan Soan, Ton That Thuyet and Vo Van Kiet.
When completed, the project will help vehicles run across the 2.5km long bridge from District 7 to District 1 and vice versa. The project will start construction at the end of this year and be completed in 2027.
Binh Tien Bridge and Road
The Binh Tien bridge project is 3.2km long and 30-40m wide. The project starts at the Binh Tien - Pham Van Chi intersection (District 6), then crosses Vo Van Kiet Avenue, Tau Hu Canal, Cay Sung Street (District 8), Doi Canal, Ta Quang Buu Street, and runs through Binh Hung residential area before connecting to Nguyen Van Linh Avenue (Binh Chanh District).
The total investment of the project is over 6,200 billion VND under the BOT form. Recently, the project has been approved by the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City to select a consulting contractor and prepare a pre-feasibility study report to prepare for implementation.
According to the plan, Binh Tien bridge and road is expected to start construction at the end of 2025 and be completed in 2028, helping to create a new road axis from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Nguyen Van Linh Street, thereby connecting National Highway 50, National Highway 1, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, and Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.
