The US said that sending three aircraft carriers to Asia, taking place in the context of the US presidential power transition, demonstrates the US's determination to ensure security and stability in the region.

Nikkei Asia reported on November 23 that three US aircraft carriers will be present in Asia next week after months of absence, amid concerns about China's activities as Donald Trump prepares to take office as US president.
The USS George Washington aircraft carrier, with 2,702 crew members, arrived at Yokosuka port in Japan on November 22, the home port of the US Navy's 7th Fleet. This is the ship's first return to this port in 9 years.
The USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier was deployed to the Pacific region on November 18. In addition, the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier will travel from the Indian Ocean through the South China Sea, before returning to its home port in San Diego, California.
"This presence allows naval and joint forces to respond quickly and bring our most capable ships with the greatest strike power and operational capability to bear," said Katie Koenig, a spokeswoman for the US Navy's Pacific Fleet.
“This also demonstrates our determination to ensure security and stability in the region,” she added.
The US has not had an aircraft carrier deployed in Asia since mid-May, when the USS Ronald Reagan left Yokosuka. Other carriers have been sent to the Middle East to respond to the growing conflict, as Israel launches missile attacks on Lebanon and Iran-Israel tensions rise.
US Navy must change to counter 'Iran's best' weapons in the Red Sea
Analysts say the increased US military presence in the Pacific is intended to counter any threats in the more than 50 days before Mr Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025.
While the US has 11 aircraft carriers, most of which are undergoing maintenance or have just returned from long deployments, only a handful are ready to go to sea. As fighting escalated in Ukraine and Gaza, the Pentagon under Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin prioritized those areas over the Western Pacific.
