Global market research organization Euromonitor International has just announced the ranking of the 100 most attractive cities in the world in 2024. Notably, two major cities of Vietnam, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, were honored in this ranking.
According to CNN , Euromonitor International's rating index looks at top cities around the world and ranks them according to criteria including tourism, sustainability, economic performance, health and safety.
This year, Paris tops the list, buoyed by the success of the Summer Olympics and the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral. This is the fourth consecutive year that France's "City of Light" has been named the world's most attractive city.
Europe dominates the 2024 ranking with six cities making the top 10. Madrid (Spain) is in 2nd place, Rome and Milan (Italy) are in 4th and 5th place, Amsterdam (Netherlands) is in 7th place and Barcelona (Spain) is in 10th place. London, which was in 10th place in 2023, has slipped down the rankings to 13th place in 2024.
Seoul is in 12th place and Dubai is in 14th place.
In Asia, in addition to Tokyo and Singapore in the top 10, there are many other high-ranking cities such as: Taipei (11), Seoul (12), Dubai (14), Osaka (16), Bangkok (17), Hong Kong (21), Kuala Lumpur (31)... Two Vietnamese cities, Ho Chi Minh City, ranked 76th and Hanoi ranked 83rd.
With the yen hitting record lows against major currencies, Japan is set to become one of the world's most attractive destinations for both tourism and leisure in 2024. Nearly 13 million international trips to Tokyo were recorded in 2024, according to Euromonitor International, significantly higher than pre-pandemic levels.
New York came in at number 6, the only US city in the top 10. Los Angeles came in at number 18, the second highest. New York took the top spot in the tourism performance category, with high demand both domestically and internationally.
Meanwhile, Bangkok is the top city in terms of policy, tourism attractiveness and is also the number 1 city worldwide by 2024 in terms of international arrivals. Euromonitor International reports that there will be 32.4 million international trips to the city in 2024, nearly 10 million more than last year's number one city, Istanbul, which recorded 23 million visitors in 2024.
