Specifically, this farm injected 50 doses into a herd of pigs with an average weight of 30-40 kg/head (according to instructions). After 7 days of injection, the pigs showed signs of poor appetite. The Agricultural Service Center instructed the farm owner to supplement supplements and electrolytes to increase the pigs' resistance, but 18 out of 50 pigs died after injection with the same symptoms.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine coordinated with AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company to collect samples for testing. The results showed that the pigs tested positive for African swine fever due to a local virus. The infected virus did not have the same genetic structure as the virus strain isolated to produce the vaccine.
AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company has taken blood samples from some remaining pigs for evaluation and proposed treatment measures, supporting supplements, electrolytes, disinfecting barns, etc. to enhance the resistance of the pig herd.
Hai Duong has injected a total of nearly 1,700 doses of AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company’s African swine fever vaccine into 75 pig farms in 8 districts. In Tu Ky district, the veterinary sector has injected 190 experimental doses into 5 farms in the communes of Dai Son, An Thanh and Van To. The farm in Van To commune is the only case where there was a problem during vaccination.
