The entire teaching staff of Yen Kha Secondary School (Con Cuong district, Nghe An) has volunteered to teach more free of charge for students after Circular 29 took effect.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hao, Principal of Yen Khe Secondary School (Con Cuong District, Nghe An) said that all 16 teachers of the school have written a voluntary application to teach students for free.

“Although we have to work overtime, the teachers all volunteer to teach students for free with a relaxed, responsible, and enthusiastic spirit, all for the sake of our beloved students. So far, we have organized two classes,” Mr. Hao shared.

Mr. Hao said that previously, extra teaching was carried out according to Circular 17 of the Ministry of Education and Training. However, this activity ended after completing the first semester program, before Circular 29 took effect. When some teachers proposed free extra teaching, the school held a party cell meeting and sought the collective opinion of the teachers.

“During the Party cell meeting, 100% of the school’s teachers agreed to provide free tutoring to students. The teachers agreed to organize 1-2 review sessions to reinforce students’ knowledge each week. Physical education teachers also participate in teaching extracurricular subjects such as shuttlecock and volleyball. Teachers also assign homework for students to study on their own and every 2-3 weeks, the subject groups will check the students’ self-study at home,” said Mr. Hao.

According to the Principal, the opinions have been included in the Resolution of the school's Party cell. For grade 9 students, the school has met with teachers of 3 subjects to help them best prepare for the grade 10 entrance exam.

Previously, the school and parents agreed to collect 18,000 VND/session to cover electricity, water, stationery and remuneration for tutors. However, free tutoring now may affect teachers’ income. Despite requests for financial support from parents, the school decided not to accept support to organize these tutoring sessions, following the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Education and Training.

What is admirable is that, in addition to the school's regular teachers, there are two English teachers from other schools who also volunteer to teach extra classes. Among them, Mr. Dang Ngoc Quy is a teacher at Thach Ngan Ethnic Boarding School, more than 20km from Yen Khe Secondary School, who still ensures to teach both regular classes and extra classes for grades 7-8 every Friday.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tra Ly, a teacher at Bong Khe Primary School, although she has to teach two levels, is still willing to share with the school's students because English is always a difficult subject for students in the highlands.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Yen Khe Secondary School has 11 classes with nearly 400 students, of which more than 90% are children of ethnic minorities, mainly Thai people, including some Dan Lai people. Despite many difficulties, the school still maintains its top position in Con Cuong district.
