On December 29 (ie 30th of Tet), the Emergency Department of 19-8 Hospital continued to receive patients. According to Dr. Mach Tho Thai, Head of the Emergency Department, during the 2-day Tet holiday, there were an average of nearly 100 emergency cases per day. Yesterday, there were 71 cases, many of which were severe and required hospitalization.
Emergency cases are mainly serious illnesses such as: Cardiovascular disease, traffic accidents, domestic accidents, stroke, myocardial infarction, pneumonia...
In particular, according to Dr. Mach Tho Thai, this year traffic accidents in the emergency room have decreased significantly, due to students returning to their hometowns and people's awareness of obeying the Traffic Safety Law has improved. In particular, traffic accidents caused by alcohol have decreased sharply, leading to a significant decrease in cases of traumatic brain injury due to alcohol. "If 3 years ago, doctors on duty during Tet had a hard time because of many traffic accidents in the emergency room, especially cases of people who drank alcohol and were admitted to the emergency room still smelling of alcohol and vomiting, this year it has decreased significantly," said Dr. Thai.
To ensure that all patients coming to 19-8 Hospital are received for examination and emergency treatment during the Lunar New Year, the Hospital has arranged on-duty teams in all departments and rooms, as well as fully prepared medicines and medical supplies to ensure the best emergency and treatment for patients.
According to Dr. Thai, the Emergency Department is open 24/7, each shift has 2 doctors and 6 nurses ready to provide emergency care to patients most effectively.
At the A9 Emergency Center, Bach Mai Hospital, during the Tet holidays, there were an average of 300 patients/day coming to the emergency room. Most of the serious cases were transferred from lower levels or people coming directly to the hospital.
There are shifts when patients rush to the emergency room due to accidents, poisoning, and strokes. In particular, when the weather turns cold and the temperature drops sharply, many people with strokes and heart attacks have to be hospitalized even though it is Tet.
Dr. Nguyen Minh Hieu, A9 Emergency Center, said that during Tet, there are many patients, although tired, the doctors are all used to it. After many years of working on duty during Tet, Dr. Hieu has adapted to this. He shared: "Every time a patient overcomes the critical stage and recovers, we have more motivation and feel that it is the joy of Tet."
To ensure emergency care, Bach Mai Hospital has assigned hundreds of medical staff to work throughout Tet. The hospital's external emergency team is ready 24/7 to respond to natural disasters, fires, accidents, etc. On the 30th of Tet alone, 1,000 doctors and nurses from Bach Mai Hospital are on duty on New Year's Eve.
No one wants to spend Tet in the hospital, especially in the current cold weather. Bach Mai Hospital still has 1,400 patients being treated, so before Tet, the hospital reviewed all human and material resources to ensure the best emergency and treatment.
To ensure that patients and their families stay in the hospital during Tet, especially in cold weather conditions, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, has directed units to strengthen measures to ensure warmth for patients and their families who are being treated and staying at the hospital.
The hospital has equipped outdoor heating systems, warm blankets and boiling water and during Tet holidays has increased and provided additional support to prevent cold for patients and their families.
The heating system along the A9 Emergency Center and Stroke Center has been turned on, helping patients’ relatives waiting outside the lobby not be affected by the freezing cold. The system will be maintained throughout the Tet holiday, until the outside temperature is warmer.
According to Dr. Truong Anh Thu, Head of the Infection Control Department, Bach Mai Hospital, the Department ensures that patients always have enough warm blankets, clean clothes and boiled water before the cold weather of the Lunar New Year 2025. If departments, patients, and patients' families have any needs, the Department is ready to respond promptly and fully.
A9 Emergency Center is ready with air conditioners, heaters, warm blankets, and thermal blankets for patients. In addition, the Center also regularly checks and strictly controls the temperature of the hospital room as well as the body temperature of the patients. There is a plan to adjust the temperature and humidity in a timely manner according to standards and regulations, suitable for each treatment area as well as the pathology of each patient. Ensure that the doors are always airtight and that doctors and staff are ready to handle and respond to unexpected situations.
At Viet Duc Hospital, the number of emergency cases of traffic accidents being admitted continuously. In addition, there are cases of domestic accidents, firecrackers...
The hospital has organized emergency duty at 4 levels, and regularly checks and supervises 24/7 emergency duty to ensure that all emergency patients are examined and treated promptly.
The hospital also strictly prohibits refusal or delay in handling. If the patient is transferred to another medical facility or department, the hospital must provide initial emergency treatment and fully explain to the patient and their family before transferring them to another medical facility.
In addition, the hospital established two emergency teams to handle mass accidents and disaster emergencies, if any, under the direction of the Board of Directors as well as the mobilization of the leaders of the Ministry of Health.
All surgeons and medical staff in the hospital are ready to perform their duties when mobilized for disaster relief. The hospital has practiced the internal and external red alert before the holiday, ensuring readiness to perform the duties.
To reduce the overload of trauma patients requiring long-term treatment at the hospital during the Tet holiday, Viet Duc Hospital has arranged to add an additional operating room for emergency surgery for trauma patients with closed fractures of the upper and lower limbs, open fractures of grade I, spinal injuries, maxillofacial injuries, etc., so that surgery can be performed without having to wait.
