From January 20-24, Viet Duc Hospital received 245 emergency cases due to traffic accidents and 169 emergency cases due to domestic accidents.
Admitted to the hospital with severe multiple injuries, patient HTH (39 years old, Hanoi) was diagnosed with subdural hematoma and bone fractures. According to his family, the cause of Mr. H's accident was due to drinking alcohol. The test results showed that the male patient's blood alcohol concentration was high. Mr. H was taken to the emergency room at Viet Duc Hospital in a state of drowsiness, with multiple abrasions and bleeding. He is currently in stable condition and is being monitored.
Also drinking alcohol and then driving a motorbike, young man NT (19 years old, Thai Binh) fell and suffered serious injuries.
The young man was taken to the emergency room with a swollen jaw and face, bruises, uncontrollable nosebleeds, and severe injuries: bilateral brain contusions, a fracture of the left cheekbone, and bilateral lung contusions.
Currently, the patient is being treated with antibiotics, intravenous fluids, and anti-cerebral edema. At the same time, the patient is receiving intensive care and conservative treatment in the Emergency Department.
During the days before Tet, Viet Duc Hospital received many traffic accident cases, mainly caused by lack of control after parties. In addition, cleaning and repairing activities at the end of the year also lead to many unfortunate injuries. For example, the case of Ms. TTN (63 years old, Thai Binh) who climbed a ladder to pick a tray of five fruits to display on the altar, causing her to fall from the tree and collapse her L1 vertebra. She was transferred to Viet Duc Hospital for emergency treatment and is being treated at the Spinal Surgery Department.
Notably, children are the group most affected by firecracker accidents, leaving behind heartbreaking consequences as Tet approaches.
The patient who was just admitted to the emergency room is a 16-year-old boy from Ha Nam. The boy learned how to make fireworks online. While using them, the homemade fireworks exploded, causing serious injuries, including the loss of fingers and many other injuries.
Although doctors have warned about serious injuries caused by homemade fireworks, the situation of buying homemade fireworks online to play with, or learning from social networks, buying fireworks to make and then explode, causing serious injuries to children still occurs continuously. According to statistics from Viet Duc Hospital in the last 3 months of 2024, this place received 21 cases of accidents caused by fireworks, with more than 50% of the victims being children. This is a strong warning about the dangers of homemade fireworks and the long-term impact on children's health, both physically and mentally.
Faced with this situation, doctors have made recommendations to help people celebrate Tet safely and fully, such as: Absolutely do not drive after drinking alcohol, be careful when working at heights and using sharp tools. Climbing ladders to pick fruit, clean or repair the house must be done carefully with safety support tools. Ensure the space is well-lit, the ladder is sturdy and there is someone to assist when necessary.
Homemade fireworks always pose unpredictable dangers. People should not arbitrarily manufacture or use illegal fireworks, especially homemade fireworks. This is not only a violation of the law but also poses a risk of causing serious injury, even death.
Therefore, people need to raise awareness, absolutely do not buy, sell or use illegal fireworks and need to guide their children to stay away from these dangerous actions to protect their own safety and the community.
Parents should absolutely prohibit children from accessing or using fireworks, and at the same time educate children to be aware of this danger.
