According to preliminary statistics recently released by the General Department of Customs, in the first half of October (October 1-15), fruit and vegetable exports earned 296 million USD. Compared to the second half of September 2024, fruit and vegetable export turnover decreased sharply (down 204 million USD). In total, from the beginning of the year to September 15, fruit and vegetable exports brought in 5.94 billion USD, an increase of 1.12 billion USD over the same period last year.

The most important contributor to the export results of vegetables and fruits is still durian. By the end of September, durian contributed over 2.5 billion USD in export turnover. Other fruits such as bananas, mangoes, dragon fruits, etc. also contributed millions of USD per item.
The largest customer of Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable industry is China, with 65% of Vietnamese fruit entering this market. Last year, durian made history for the first time in the billion-dollar commodity group thanks to strong consumption from the billion-people market of China. This year, fresh coconut and frozen durian were also officially imported.
According to the General Department of Customs, by the end of September, fruit and vegetable exports to the Chinese market reached 3.79 billion USD, a sharp increase of 37.82% over the same period last year and accounting for 67.2% of the total fruit and vegetable export turnover of the country.
Another positive signal for fruit and vegetable exports was that in mid-October, official shipments of fresh coconuts exported to China by road were carried out through the border gates of Lao Cai and Lang Son.
Returning from the first Vietnam Fruit Festival in Beijing (China), Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung - General Director of Vina T&T Company - said: "We have noted the great interest of Chinese consumers in coconuts. We believe that coconuts will help to grow significantly in the last three months of the year."
The results obtained since the beginning of the year, according to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, are due to the fact that we have diversified our export markets, especially Japan, Korea, and China, which are densely populated areas. In addition, the Government and businesses are expanding their export of products such as frozen durian, fresh coconut to China, and grapefruit to Korea. These are products in which Vietnam has an advantage.
It can be seen that, thanks to negotiation efforts, Vietnam has successfully brought more types of vegetables and fruits to populous markets such as China, the United States, Japan, and South Korea. Since the beginning of the year, most of the top 10 import markets for Vietnamese vegetables and fruits have grown from 30% to nearly 90% compared to the same period last year.
In addition, domestic supply is abundant, demand from traditional and potential markets is on the rise. Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade forecasts that Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export activities will continue to be favorable in the last months of the year. These are creating conditions for the fruit and vegetable industry to maintain its growth momentum to reach the target of 7 billion USD.
