Exporting goods is difficult to "reach the finish line"

Việt NamViệt Nam08/11/2023

Although Binh Thuan's export turnover in recent months has shown a significant increase compared to the same period last year, it is still forecasted to be very difficult to "reach the finish line" as expected...

Evidence is that in September 2023, the province's export turnover reached more than 66 million USD (up 16.4% over the same period), and in October it is estimated to reach nearly 70 million USD (up 30.64% over the same period in 2022). Recorded in October, export activities also showed optimistic signals with positive growth in all key commodity groups compared to the previous month. Specifically, the seafood group is estimated to reach 18.98 million USD (up 6.97%), the agricultural group achieved 0.95 million USD (up 9.27%) and the other commodity group reached about 49.96 million USD (up 11.5%)...

However, in the first 10 months of this year, Binh Thuan's total export turnover is estimated at only 590.24 million USD, down 9.11% over the same period last year. Of which, the group of exported aquatic products brought the locality about 173.19 million USD (down 19.32%), the group of agricultural products contributed 11.68 million USD (up 26.65%), and the group of other goods is estimated to reach 405.37 million USD (down 4.73%)... It is known that the province's export turnover decreased because the world economic situation is still difficult and many countries' markets are tightening spending. Meanwhile, locally, some enterprises participating in exporting aquatic products and other goods lack orders, thus affecting export activities. Therefore, although the turnover of agricultural products has increased, due to its low proportion in the total turnover compared to the two "leading" groups (aquatic products and other goods), it has little impact on the overall growth.

Regarding direct exports, from the beginning of the year until now, the province's goods exported to Asia are estimated at 428.41 million USD, up 3.34% over the same period last year, however, in Europe it decreased by 43.69% (estimated at 37.48 million USD) and America decreased by 31.25% (reaching nearly 108 million USD). Currently, there are some markets that account for a large proportion of Binh Thuan's total turnover such as: Japan (mainly shrimp, fish, other aquatic products, textiles...), Taiwan (clothes, aquatic products...). Or for example, the US market mainly includes footwear, shrimp... while the Chinese market includes shrimp products, footwear, various minerals...

Recently, the export situation has gradually improved again and in industrial parks in Binh Thuan, it shows that after the difficult months at the beginning of the year, the production and business activities of enterprises have stabilized, the number of orders has increased compared to before, especially for garment, wood, leather and footwear products... However, there is not much time left, so the export results of the province in 2023 are very difficult to complete the set target and are estimated to reach 714.4 million USD, down 8.59% compared to last year. Of the 3 main export groups, this year the seafood group is likely to contribute only about 210 million USD (down more than 16% over the same period), the agricultural group is estimated to reach 14.4 million USD (up more than 11%, dragon fruit exports alone can bring in 8.6 million USD, up 11.41%), other groups of goods are estimated to reach 490 million USD (down 5.49%).

In the coming time, the locality will focus on implementing solutions to promote the search and exploitation of new markets and potential markets to effectively export Binh Thuan's advantageous products. In particular, it will focus on gradually shifting the informal export of agricultural products, especially dragon fruit, to the formal export form. For the functional sector, it will continue to work with units engaged in import and export activities to grasp difficulties and obstacles and promptly propose to competent authorities to support and resolve them to help businesses develop production - business, connect, expand markets, etc. Thereby aiming to bring Binh Thuan's export turnover to maintain a positive growth rate, striving to exceed the figure of more than 790 million USD in 2024.

The 2023 plan sets the target of the province's goods export to reach 819 million USD, of which: The seafood group will achieve 260 million USD, the agricultural group will bring in 16 million USD and other goods will be 543 million USD (garment alone will contribute 276.7 million USD, footwear of all kinds will contribute 81.2 million USD...).
