Treatment of cracks and subsidence at Tra My Meteorological Station

At the end of 2023, a large crack appeared in the hill area where Tra My Meteorological Station is located, posing a risk of subsidence and landslides. Based on analysis and assessment of the current situation, on June 20, 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision 1486 approving the adjustment of the investment project to build this embankment, focusing on 3 key groups of items.

In particular, adjusting and reinforcing the 110m long revetment with the construction solution of digging and covering the hillside from the sloping roof to the dug roof; planting grass in the concrete beam frame system to reinforce the roof. As for the foot, arrange a layer of steel core gabions, galvanized and coated with PVC plastic; at the same time, arrange a surface drainage system on the roof of the reinforced concrete structure and steps.

At some locations, reinforced concrete retaining walls are added, along the foot of the wall is a drainage system, inside is a reverse filter layer including filter chips and filter sand.

In addition, drainage ditches will be added along some locations to the manhole or sewer collection locations... The total investment of the project after this adjustment is more than 94.8 billion VND.

After being approved by the Provincial People's Committee, in recent days, a number of technical staff of the construction contractor have implemented professional measures to calculate solutions for roof tarpaulin construction and reinforcement.

In the residential area along Highway 24C (Tra My to Tra Bong) and Tra My meteorological hill, the plan to open a service road to the top of the hill is also calculated to bring in mechanical vehicles to level, scoop, cover, and transport soil and rock to the disposal areas.

An officer from Tra My Meteorological Station said that in the construction area there is currently an unidentified grave. Local people planted pineapple trees to mark the grave so that the contractor would be aware of it and move it before construction.

Previously, during the construction of the Truong River embankment protection project, at the end of 2023, 3 large cracks appeared on the hill where Tra My Meteorological Station was located. Of which, crack number 3 is on the top, only 3 - 7m from the area where the weather monitoring equipment is installed.

The crack is arc-shaped in the West-East direction, about 110m long, about 2.5m deep; the gap is from 10 - 20cm, the ground subsidence is about 40cm, and there are signs of further widening.

The cracks threaten the safety of the embankment, station house, weather observation equipment of Tra My Meteorological Station and a household at the foot of the hill. Local people hope that this repair work will be completed soon before the flood season this year to ensure safety.
