People of Nghia Thanh commune take care of the flower street in the area. |
Safe, green, clean and beautiful countryside
In mid-April 2025, traveling on the model rural roads in Vinh Son village, Nghia Thanh commune (Chau Duc district), we were amazed by the airy and clean beauty. Ms. Tran Tuy Phuong, Head of the Vinh Son village Farmers' Association, said that the flower road was launched by the Commune People's Committee in April 2023, more than 1km long, with more than 300 yellow trumpet trees planted. Every week, farmer members coordinate with the village's organizations to clean, weed, water, and fertilize, thanks to which the yellow trumpet trees grow well, with brilliant yellow colors like today.
According to Chairwoman of Nghia Thanh Commune People's Committee Tran Thi Hoe, after 2 years of implementing the breakthrough "50% of traffic routes are planted with flowers" launched by Chau Duc District People's Committee, the whole commune has planted more than 60km of flower roads, with nearly 10 thousand yellow trumpet trees and wallflowers.
Many roads in Tien Thanh village (Quang Thanh commune, Chau Duc district) are planted with flowers. |
“The construction of the flower road not only helps to clean the environment but also raises people's awareness of environmental protection, contributing to maintaining the model NTM criteria in the area,” Ms. Hoe added.
Recognizing the important role of members in building new rural areas, the District Farmers’ Association has launched the movement “Farmers join hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas” to each grassroots association. Thereby, mobilizing cadres and members to participate in contributing efforts, donating land to widen roads, install lighting, and upgrade rural infrastructure works.
From 2024 to present, the association at all levels has mobilized members to voluntarily donate 77,312m2 of land, contribute 434 working days to build new 49km and repair 15km of rural roads; repair and consolidate 16km of canals; build new and repair 24 bridges and culverts; at the same time, replicate the flower road model in the area, collect used pesticide packaging, etc.
People's lives are increasingly improved
Suoi Nghe Commune has a large area of hills and agricultural land. This is a favorable condition for developing livestock farming. Taking advantage of this advantage, through mobilization resources, the District Farmers' Association has supported many households in Suoi Nghe Commune to develop a goat farming model to develop the economy.
Previously, the family of Mrs. Tran Thi Suong, Trung Son village, Suoi Nghe commune was considered a poor household. To help members develop their family economy, in early 2023, the District Farmers' Association donated 2 breeding goats that were in the breeding stage. Thanks to the correct implementation of the breeding process, Mrs. Suong's family's herd of goats has increased gradually every year. Currently, there are 20 goats in the barn, including 5 breeding goats. Since the beginning of 2025, Mrs. Suong's family has sold more than a dozen goats for meat, earning nearly 50 million VND.
Vice Chairman of Suoi Nghe Commune People's Committee Tran Ba Hoi said that goat farming has been bringing stable income to many farming households. Thanks to that, the locality has completed the goal of building a model new rural area by 2024.
Up to now, Chau Duc district has 13/14 communes recognized as advanced NTM communes, of which 7 communes meet the model NTM standards. To increase farmers' income, the district Farmers' Association has coordinated with enterprises to implement models of growing aloe vera, papaya, pumpkin, biomass corn, etc. with a production area of hundreds of hectares; mobilized support for breeding goats and breeding cows for 60 member households, with an amount of 650 million VND. The association at all levels also mobilized 13,512 members to participate in voluntary health insurance, reaching 98.73% of the total number of members in the district. The average income per capita in communes building NTM reaches 85 million VND/year or more. |
Chau Duc district has a total herd of about 100,000 goats. In recent times, goats have been a profitable farming model for farmers. In the context of high feed prices, using available leaves in the garden such as jackfruit, corn, grass, etc. as substitutes is a suitable option to reduce costs in farming. When the market is good, 1kg of live goat costs from 110,000 to 140,000 VND. After deducting expenses, farmers can earn a profit of more than 3 million VND per commercial goat.
“To increase the number of goat and cow herds, in the coming time, the Farmers' Association will continue to propose and advise the Provincial Farmers' Association and the District People's Committee to support breeding animals; coordinate with departments and branches to organize training courses, guide farmers to apply scientific and technical advances in livestock farming and create the best conditions for households to access preferential loans to expand production scale and increase income,” said Mr. Than Xuan Dong, Vice Chairman of the Chau Duc District Farmers' Association.
