(NLDO) - In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City has implemented many environmental projects with the goal of controlling pollution and expanding green areas.
On the morning of January 20, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City held a flower offering ceremony at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument, and at the same time launched an action program for the environmental sanitation sector on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025.
This is an activity to respond to the movement to improve environmental sanitation quality, beautify urban landscapes in the city, contributing to welcoming Tet as well as celebrating the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025).

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City generates about 9,800 - 10,500 tons of solid waste every day. All of it is collected, transported and treated according to regulations, ensuring environmental sanitation and urban aesthetics.
To achieve this result, units in the environmental sanitation sector of Ho Chi Minh City have made constant efforts.
The city currently has more than 10,000 sanitation workers, including about 3,000 street sweepers, 6,500 waste collectors, 1,200 transport workers, and hundreds of people who treat waste on canals. Their contributions have helped maintain the cleanliness of the city over the years.
Attending the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong visited and presented gifts to environmental sanitation workers.
Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Toan Thang informed that in 2024, the city has implemented many environmental projects with the goal of controlling pollution and expanding green areas. 157 polluted spots have been treated and renovated, 153 spots have been converted into community living areas, flower gardens and parks.
In particular, Ho Chi Minh City has promoted the conversion of waste treatment technology. Currently, the project of Tam Sinh Nghia Company and Vietstar Company has been assessed for feasibility by the Ministry of Construction to complete the construction permit procedures.

The Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment also expressed sincere thanks to the environmental sanitation workers for their tireless efforts to keep the city clean and beautiful.
On the eve of the Lunar New Year 2025 and the anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, he called on Ho Chi Minh City residents to continue to join hands in maintaining environmental sanitation, participating in general cleaning of public areas and residential areas, and jointly developing the urban green space system.
Mr. Nguyen Toan Thang also emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene when Metro Line 1 is put into operation as well as hoping that people will be aware of maintaining cleanliness on Metro trains, station areas and surrounding sidewalks. From there, contributing to building the image of Ho Chi Minh City as green - clean - beautiful in the eyes of people and tourists.
Ms. Pham Thi My Hanh (born in 1983, residing in Hoc Mon district) expressed that she felt very happy to offer flowers to Uncle Ho and receive lucky money. The female worker shared: "I have been working in environmental sanitation for 6 years, I love and appreciate this industry, I also try to work extra night shifts during Tet to make my city more beautiful. I also hope that people will join hands with us, the workers, to keep the public clean...".
