People contributed working days to help poor households receive support to remove temporary houses in Vo Dap hamlet, Huu Loi commune (Yen Thuy).

According to statistics, in the commune, there are currently 14 poor households living in temporary, seriously degraded houses that need to be rebuilt to ensure safety in daily life. Faced with this situation, the Fatherland Front Committee of Huu Loi commune has implemented many synchronous measures to mobilize resources to carry out the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses. In 2024, thanks to support from capital sources of national target programs combined with socialized resources from organizations and unions, the commune completed the construction of houses for 2 poor households. The new houses not only help people have a spacious and solid place to live, but also motivate them to escape poverty and stabilize their lives.

Comrade Dinh Thi Hong Thuc, Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Huu Loi Commune, said: To complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for the remaining 14 households, the commune continues to promote advocacy work, mobilizing all resources from the state, businesses and philanthropists. In addition, the commune supports people with materials, organizes labor days to reduce construction costs. Thanks to that, many poor households can build new houses with the help of the community.

Ms. Quach Thi Hoa is a poor household in Roc hamlet, having lived in a seriously degraded level 4 house for many years. Thanks to the temporary house removal program, she was supported with 60 million VND to build a new house of more than 50 square meters with solid brick walls. Along with that, the local government mobilized organizations and individuals to sponsor additional funds to build a roof, helping her have a stable place to live.

Ms. Hoa emotionally shared: My family only has me and my daughter, the economy depends entirely on agriculture. After many years of use, my house has become increasingly degraded and damaged, but there is no possibility of repairing it. The local government considered supporting me with a program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses with an amount of 60 million VND. Thanks to that, my family has a new, more durable house, and can rest assured that we will no longer be afraid of the rain and wind during the rainy season.

Similarly, the family of Mrs. Bui Thi Chem, Vo Dap hamlet, is in extremely difficult circumstances, living mainly on farming, and was also supported with funds to build a new house. In early 2025, when receiving support for the demolition of the temporary house, her family was happy and determined to complete a solid house, with an area of over 40 square meters.

Huu Loi commune has 1,027 households and 4,492 people; the rate of poor and near-poor households accounts for nearly 10%. Currently, the whole commune has 14 houses that need support for new construction, including 11 poor households and 3 near-poor households. To date, 100% of the houses have started construction. In order to ensure progress, the commune Party Committee and government have assigned cadres to directly urge and monitor each household. At the same time, the Fatherland Front, Youth Union, Women's Union, Farmers' Association and the commune's police and military forces have actively participated in supporting the construction. The commune aims to complete the elimination of 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses before June 30, 2025. Putting solid houses into use soon will not only help poor households stabilize their lives, but also motivate them to develop the economy, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.
