Forest ranger station chief dies: 14 bullet wounds on body

Through examination, authorities discovered 14 bullet wounds on the forest ranger's body.

On December 3, Mr. Le Minh Tien, Director of Ea So Nature Reserve (Dak Lak province) said that there was a report about a forest ranger of the unit dying while patrolling at a hot spot of deforestation.

According to the report, at 1:00 a.m. on December 3, the authorities completed the autopsy. Initial preliminary findings showed that Mr. NKA (acting Head of Forest Ranger Station No. 2) was shot with a homemade gun, with 14 bullet wounds. The victim's body has been handed over to his family for burial.

The Ea So Nature Reserve Management Board added that Mr. A. died at a patrol hotspot, near the road where the rangers blocked off to prevent people from entering the Ea So Nature Reserve.

It is known that at 5:00 a.m. on December 2, colleagues woke up and did not see Mr. A. at the station. From 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the same day, colleagues called Mr. A. but the phone rang but no one answered.

After that, the forest rangers organized a search for Mr. A. at the locations they usually patrolled and ambushed to catch the illegal loggers. When they arrived, people discovered Mr. A.'s motorbike but could not find him.

The conservation area's leaders sent more forces to search for Mr. A. At 3:00 p.m. on December 2, Mr. A. was found dead in a local cornfield.

Dak Lak Provincial Police are currently coordinating with relevant units to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.
