Thanks to implementing many solutions to maintain and increase market and market share, Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC) achieved positive production and business results in 2024.
Sea transport and port cargo volume increased sharply
At the Conference on Party building and business tasks in 2025 of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC), Mr. Nguyen Canh Tinh, General Director of VIMC informed that in 2024, the company's maritime transport output will reach approximately 20 million tons, exceeding 22% of the 2024 plan.
Mr. Nguyen Canh Tinh, General Director of Vietnam National Shipping Lines, spoke at the conference on implementing Party building work and business tasks in 2025.
VIMC has thoroughly carried out the restructuring of its fleet. Although the fleet capacity has decreased, thanks to promoting the outsourcing of ship chartering activities in many forms and actively implementing COA contracts, the maritime transport output has been compensated and far exceeded the plan assigned at the beginning of the year.
Cargo throughput through seaports reached 145 million tons, up 126% over the same period in 2023. Of which, container throughput reached 6.2 million Teus, up 127% over the same period. Seaport throughput grew well and was higher than the national average because VIMC had implemented drastic and synchronous solutions to maintain and increase the market and market share.
As a result of the year, VIMC's total revenue reached VND 24,813 billion and VIMC's total profit reached VND 4,940 billion.
With the achieved production and business results, in 2024, Mr. Tinh informed that the average salary of employees of the whole enterprise will reach 18.2 million VND/person/month, of which the parent company will reach 25.19 million VND/month.
Last year, both cargo transport output and cargo throughput through VIMC's port system grew.
Not only with specific production and business activities, last year, VIMC also developed 10 new container service routes to the ports of Hai Phong, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, CMIT, SSIT. Among them, there are transport routes directly connecting Vietnam with ports in Europe.
In particular, the Corporation's port system has received and provided services to all of the world's top 10 shipping lines.
In international cooperation, implementing the previous agreements signed with MSC Group, the enterprise has established a joint venture to exploit two international container terminals No. 3 and 4 of the Hai Phong International Gateway Port project in Lach Huyen. These are important agreements with TIL/MSC for key projects and have achieved many positive results.
At the same time, VIMC completed the signing of an agreement to establish a joint venture to invest and construct the Can Gio international transit port project.
Notably, with Can Gio port, up to now, Vietnam National Shipping Lines has basically completed the procedures for the Prime Minister to issue a decision approving the policy of implementing the Can Gio international transit port project.
This is a large-scale project expected to become an international transit center of Ho Chi Minh City and the region, attracting domestic and foreign shipping lines, transport companies, cargo owners, and logistics service businesses, participating in the world transport supply chain and realizing the goal of making Vietnam a strategic position on the international maritime map.
Regarding maritime service activities, in 2024, VIMC was approved by the People's Committee of Hai Duong province to invest in the construction of the Ninh Giang Inland Waterway Port project in the province.
The project will be deployed on an area of approximately 27.07 hectares and a designed capacity of 3 million tons of goods per year. The total preliminary investment capital of the project is VND1,496 billion.
The results achieved are even more significant when in 2024, the world situation continues to be complicated and unpredictable, with fierce strategic competition and escalating conflicts in many regions. Prices of gasoline, basic goods and transportation costs fluctuate sharply, economic and trade recovery is slow and unstable, while total demand and global investment decline and exchange rates and interest rates fluctuate unpredictably. Natural disasters, climate change, energy security, food security and cyber security are complicated.
