Expanding cooperation in potential areas such as tourism, culture, education, agriculture, fisheries, etc. is the proposal of Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Tam during a working session with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Hasini Amarasuriya, at the Prime Minister's Office in Colombo, on October 3.

Here, Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam conveyed the congratulations of the Vietnamese high-ranking leaders on Sri Lanka's successful organization of the 9th Presidential election on September 21 and the establishment of the Government headed by Ms. Hasini Amarasuriya. Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam believes that under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Sri Lanka will soon overcome current difficulties and challenges, continue to develop stably, and become an attractive destination for tourism, trade and foreign investment, including from Vietnam.
Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam also affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship with Sri Lanka. The two countries have good relations through party, state and national assembly channels. The Ambassador hopes that on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025, the two countries will increase delegation exchanges and high-level contacts; promote the implementation of bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the Joint Committee at the Foreign Minister level; continue the tradition of cooperation and mutual support at multilateral forums, including the United Nations; encourage people-to-people exchanges, especially among youth and women; expand cooperation in potential areas such as tourism, culture, education, agriculture, fisheries, etc.
Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam highly appreciated and hoped that the Sri Lankan Government would continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living, working and studying in Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister Hasini Amarasuriya said she is always interested in learning about Vietnam's political, economic and social situation and admires Vietnam's recent achievements in various fields. Vietnam is a development model that Sri Lanka can learn from because the two countries have many similarities in geography, history and culture.
Ms. Hasini Amarasuriya affirmed that Sri Lanka always treasures the good feelings that Vietnam has for Sri Lanka in the past and present, both in bilateral relations and at international forums. The new government of Sri Lanka wishes to strengthen relations with Vietnam.
According to Ms. Hasini Amarasuriya, in her role, she will direct relevant ministries and sectors of Sri Lanka to step up exchanges with Vietnam on measures to promote cooperation in potential areas, including trade, investment, culture, education, Buddhism. Especially learning from Vietnam's experience in developing tourism - a key economic sector of Sri Lanka.
At the same time, she acknowledged Vietnam's proposals on facilitating Vietnamese imports, encouraging Sri Lankan businesses to invest in Vietnam, coordinating the organization of cultural exchange activities in the year commemorating the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations; raising awareness among the people of the two countries about the Vietnam-Sri Lanka relationship as well as the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh, who stopped in Sri Lanka three times during his journey to find a way to save the country.
From November 1 to November 2, the Sri Lankan Fair took place in Hanoi. The event was organized by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Vietnam in coordination with the Sri Lankan Industrial Development Agency and the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade. The fair is an opportunity for Sri Lankan businesses to promote their country's products to Vietnamese consumers and connect business cooperation opportunities. |
