Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association writes condolence book to commemorate victims of earthquake disaster

Mr. Chu Cong Phung wrote in the condolence book: "The Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association sends our deepest condolences for the loss and pain that the people of Myanmar are suffering due to the terrible earthquake on March 28, 2025. We believe that with its tradition of resilience and indomitability, Myanmar will soon overcome this pain, overcome the consequences and quickly restore normal life in the affected areas.

Previously, on March 28, Mr. Chu Cong Phung sent a letter of condolence to Mr. U Thet Win, President of the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association, expressing his shock and sadness over the serious earthquake disaster. He affirmed that the Vietnam - Myanmar Friendship Association always stands side by side with the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association and the people of Myanmar. At the same time, he sent his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and expressed his deep sympathy to the people of Myanmar at this time of sorrow.

On the evening of March 31 (Vietnam time), AFP (France) quoted a source from the Myanmar military government as saying that the death toll from the March 28 earthquake in the country had risen to 2,056, with more than 3,900 injured, including nearly 300 others still missing. The death toll could continue to rise as many areas affected by the earthquake in Myanmar remain isolated. The international community and countries in the region are making efforts to support Myanmar in rescue, relief and recovery efforts after the earthquake.

On March 31, Mr. Phan Anh Son, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, sent a letter of condolences to Mr. U Thet Win, President of the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association. In the letter, he wrote:

"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the strong earthquake and aftershocks that occurred in Myanmar on 28 March 2025. The loss of life and property suffered by the people of Myanmar has left us heartbroken.

In this moment of sorrow, on behalf of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, we would like to express our deepest condolences and affirm our solidarity with the Myanmar - Vietnam Friendship Association and the people of Myanmar. We understand that, despite the great geographical distance, the hearts of the two peoples are always close in the most difficult times.

We would like to express our deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and hope that resilience and solidarity will help Myanmar overcome this pain and soon restore peaceful life.

With the traditional friendship between the two countries, we believe that Myanmar will rise strongly after this loss."

On March 31, the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam issued a notice calling for urgent support of medical supplies, medicines and food (instant noodles, energy-rich biscuits, packaged food, canned fish, family tents (tube-shaped), sleeping bags, blankets, foldable mosquito nets, personal hygiene kits, family hygiene kits, and feminine hygiene kits) as well as financial contributions to help the people of Myanmar overcome difficulties.
