Attending and speaking at the event were representatives of more than 110 United Nations member countries.
At the discussion session, countries focused on sharing experiences and good lessons on enhancing women's participation and leadership in conflict prevention and peacebuilding, identifying priority areas of cooperation, and proposing measures to effectively implement the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
Speaking at the discussion session, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasized the importance of Resolution 1325 in promoting the role of women in conflict prevention, peacekeeping and peacebuilding, ensuring women's full, fair and meaningful participation in peace processes.
In the face of the negative impacts of war, poverty and increasing inequality, the representative of Viet Nam said that ending war and addressing the root causes of conflict is an urgent task and the most effective way to ensure women's rights. Compliance with the UN Charter and international law is the key to creating a peaceful environment, in which the Security Council needs to play an active role.
In addition, it is necessary to ensure financial resources to implement the Women, Peace and Security Agenda according to Resolution 1889 proposed by Vietnam in its role as President of the Security Council in October 2009.
The Vietnamese representative also called on the United Nations, regional organizations and relevant parties to strengthen cooperation in this field through technical assistance, training and resource sharing, taking advantage of technological advances to enhance women's voices and protect them from cyber threats.
On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen shared and highlighted Vietnam's efforts and achievements in implementing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, demonstrated through the increasing proportion of women holding leadership and management positions and participating in peacekeeping activities.
In August 2024, the Government of Vietnam launched for the first time the National Action Programme on Women, Peace and Security to ensure the full and comprehensive implementation of this Agenda at all levels.
