The event was attended by Japanese IT agencies and associations such as JISA - Japan International Cooperation Agency; Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan. On the Vietnamese side, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen - Deputy Director of the Department of Information Technology and Communications Industry, Ministry of Information and Communications attended the event. The event was also attended by the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, 20 Vietnamese enterprises and nearly 150 Japanese enterprises.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa - Chairman of VINASA delivered the opening speech at the event.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa opened his speech: "Last year, a Vietnamese technology company achieved revenue from foreign markets of one billion dollars for the first time. That same company, more than twenty years ago, packed up and left the US, India, and closed its office."
With only enthusiasm, determination and basic Japanese, this company came to Japan and signed its first contracts. Japanese companies have opened the way and supported this company and the entire Vietnamese technology business community.
The Chairman of VINASA said that since then, the Japanese market has been opened to Vietnamese IT enterprises. The following years have been sweet fruits, a breakthrough development in the cooperative relationship.
In the 2000s, Vietnam did not have a technology brand in Japan. Each Vietnamese business delegation went to Japan alone, with only 1-2 people to save on business expenses. After nearly two decades, Vietnam has become Japan's second largest IT partner, with more than 500 businesses providing IT services to Japan, including more than 10 businesses with 1,000 employees, dozens of businesses with 500-1,000 employees, and hundreds of businesses with 100-500 employees. Businesses grew by 20-30%.
In particular, while in the past, Vietnamese people only took on programming, coding, and testing, today, Japanese people trust Vietnamese people to provide end-to-end services, from research, consulting, design, to customer support operations... There are Vietnamese businesses that currently have 300 consultants. Some businesses have even built a unique best shore model: combining engineers in Vietnam (offshore) and engineers directly in Japan (nearshore) to provide the fastest service, without interruption in time, without space limitations while still ensuring safety and security.
Along with the increase in activities in Japan, the IT - communications industry in Vietnam is also developing. In 2022, the revenue of the ICT industry in 2022 is estimated to reach 148 billion USD, an increase of 8.7% compared to 2021. In the software and IT services industry alone, the revenue from 50 million USD in 2000 has increased to more than 15 billion USD in 2022 with nearly 400,000 programmers.
Overview of Vietnam IT Day 2023 event
"We have a proud past and I believe the future will open up even stronger and more effective cooperation for Vietnam and Japan. Together, we will create happiness for all people and businesses. With data intelligence, they will have what they want with just one touch. Let's seize the unprecedented great opportunity before our eyes," Mr. Khoa emphasized.
The three opportunities that Mr. Khoa believes Vietnamese businesses are reaching for are also the three hot spots of digital transformation globally: maintaining SAP/S4Hana or Dynamics 365 Microsoft systems globally; converting Cobol language to modern language and Electric car engineering software.
Another opportunity is to cooperate in digital transformation, solving big problems for both Japan and Vietnam in the form of Society 5.0. In recent years, the world has been implementing level 1 digital transformation - automating operations to free workers from boring jobs, increase productivity and at the same time optimize profits for businesses. Vietnamese businesses have methods and resources for digital transformation at a higher level - automating touch points between consumers and businesses, between people and the government, and between businesses and businesses.
First held in 2013, Vietnam IT Day is part of a series of annual activities organized by the coordination between VINASA and Japanese IT associations and organizations including: Vietnam IT Day (in Tokyo), SODEC Exhibition (in Tokyo), Japan ICT Day (in Vietnam), with the mission of promoting IT cooperation between the two countries. 2023 marks the 10th year of the program organized by the Vietnamese business community doing business in Japan, and also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.
