Vietnam has 'overcome the waves, steady on the oars'

Peace, cooperation and development are the major trends.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that on December 22, 2023, nearly 2 billion people around the world received good news when the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution recognizing Lunar New Year as an annual holiday of the United Nations.

The Prime Minister said that 2023 has just passed with many complex fluctuations, Vietnam has "overcome the waves, firmly steered the boat", "turned the situation around, transformed the state", achieved important results in many fields with many outstanding marks.

On behalf of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, the Prime Minister sincerely thanked the ambassadors, chargé d'affaires, and heads of international organizations. Through the delegates, the Prime Minister expressed his deep gratitude to the Governments, peoples of countries and international organizations for their sincere sentiments, effective cooperation and valuable support for Vietnam in 2023 and throughout the past time.

The Prime Minister said that in 2024, the world and regional situation is forecast to continue to develop in a complex and unpredictable manner; however, peace, cooperation and development are still the main current, the major trend, and the common aspiration of mankind. Regional and international economic cooperation and linkages are opening up many new opportunities, new choices, and new development spaces for countries.

According to the Prime Minister, in order for those opportunities and potentials to become new driving forces serving humanity's aspirations for peace and development, it requires the efforts and solidarity of each country and the whole world.

"No single country, no matter how big and powerful, can solve all problems, especially global and national problems today," the Prime Minister affirmed.

Promoting solidarity to resolve conflicts

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that strengthening strategic trust, sincerity and sharing responsibility are the most fundamental and important factors to overcome difficulties and challenges together.

Besides, promoting solidarity and international cooperation is a fundamental solution for countries to narrow differences and resolve disputes and conflicts by peaceful means, based on international law.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam persistently and consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and multilateralization. Vietnam is a good friend, a reliable partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community, actively contributing to common efforts toward a better future for the region and the world.

The Prime Minister hopes and believes that ambassadors, chargé d'affaires, and heads of international organizations in Vietnam will continue to effectively promote their special bridging role, bringing the friendship and cooperation between countries and international organizations with Vietnam to become increasingly closer, deeper, more practical, and more effective; so that each country and each nation can develop more strongly, for a world of peace, friendship, cooperation, and sustainable development.

Mr. Salama believes that, with determination and mettle, with a foreign policy of peace and a constructive spirit, Vietnam will continue to contribute an important voice in promoting compliance with international law, maintaining world peace and stability, enhancing cooperation between countries, promoting multilateralism and making efforts to resolve common challenges.

On behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, Mr. Salama expressed his gratitude to the Government and relevant agencies of Vietnam, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for their companionship, support, hospitality and close friendship for diplomats in work as well as in life.

At the same time, affirming the commitment and determination to further promote and develop the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and other countries and international organizations in the world through cooperation and mutual benefit for a world of peace, stability, equality, prosperity and sustainable development.
