AFP quoted the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) as saying that the Noto area of Ishikawa prefecture recorded 21 consecutive tremors with a magnitude of 4 or higher on the Richter scale within 90 minutes. Of which, the strongest earthquake had a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale, occurring at 4:10 p.m. on January 1 (local time).
The earthquake caused fear among the people, including Vietnamese people living in Japan. Notably, Ishikawa Prefecture is also the headquarters of the PFU Blue Cats women's volleyball club, the team that star Tran Thi Thanh Thuy plays for in the land of cherry blossoms. The PFU Blue Cats club is based in Kahoku City, Ishikawa Prefecture, so it was also affected.
After the earthquake that occurred on January 1, 2024, many fans expressed their concern for the safety of the best hitter in Vietnamese women's volleyball. Immediately after that, the PFU Blue Cats Club updated information about the team to reassure fans: "Regarding the earthquake that occurred in the Noto region, we confirm that all staff and players of the team are safe. Everyone, please be vigilant and careful with earthquakes."
Today (January 2), members of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team contacted Thanh Thuy to inquire about her condition. According to a team member, Thanh Thuy answered the phone and said that she had evacuated in time and was currently safe and sound.
After the earthquake, PFU Blue Cats Club libero Yuka Ikeya also shared on social network X: "Thank you everyone for your concern. Our team was evacuated immediately and safely. The house shook very strongly and many things were broken. The water supply was cut off. We are very scared but will try to keep ourselves safe." On the evening of January 2, a representative of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation said that when contacting Thuy, she shared that she and her teammates practiced normally that same day.
Thanh Thuy started playing for PFU Blue Cats in Japan from the 2021-2022 season. So far, this 1.93 m tall hitter has spent 3 seasons with the team nicknamed "blue cats". The number 1 star of Vietnamese women's volleyball is currently in good form, always being one of the players who score the most points for PFU Blue Cats.
