As a mountainous district with an area of over 1,390km², of which agricultural land accounts for 27% and forestry land accounts for 75%, Van Yen has soil and climate conditions that are very suitable for growing cinnamon, cassava, planted forest wood and other valuable crops. Along with that, Van Yen is a locality with many famous historical and cultural relics such as Dong Cuong temple, Nhuoc Son temple..., many beautiful caves and waterfalls; especially, with the colorful cultural features of 12 ethnic groups, it has created a highlight for Van Yen to develop sustainable green tourism.
Mr. Ha Duc Anh - Chairman of Van Yen District People's Committee affirmed: "We determine the direction in economic development of the district is to develop a green economy based on the potential and strengths of the district. From there, we proactively propose and set out policies, tasks, solutions for socio-economic development and select models suitable to the potential and advantages; regularly accompany, support, and replicate effective economic development models. In particular, the district always attaches importance to promoting internal resources, taking advantage of external resources, effectively managing and using resources of the State, economic sectors, organizations and resources among the people towards the goal of green and sustainable development".
Accordingly, the district has focused on developing "green agriculture" in an organic, safe and sustainable direction; maintaining a cinnamon material area of over 52,000 hectares, of which over 25,300 hectares of cinnamon are cultivated in an organic direction. The total value of cinnamon products annually in the district reaches over 800 billion VND. In order to overcome the situation of fragmented and small-scale agricultural production, the district has focused on mobilizing resources and supporting the development of agricultural production according to value chains such as: the chain linking planting, production, processing and consumption of organic cinnamon products; the value chain of Bat Do bamboo shoots...
Along with that, effectively implement projects and policies on agricultural development, especially Resolution No. 69 of the Provincial People's Council. Van Yen is the leading district in the province in terms of the number of models, projects and support funding. In 2021 and 2022, the whole district had 602 livestock models and 11 cooperatives supported with a total funding of over 14,700 billion VND. The district has actively promoted, mobilized and supported entities to bring OCOP products and key specialty products of the district to e-commerce platforms. To date, the whole district has 38 OCOP products, including 36 3-star products and 2 4-star products.
Regarding the development of trade, services and industry, the district is interested in completing the planning, focusing on investing in infrastructure of industrial clusters in the district to attract investment. Since the beginning of the term, Van Yen district has attracted 14 projects with a total investment capital of 3,743 billion VND, bringing the total number of projects being implemented in the district to 76, with a total investment capital of 9,235 billion VND.
In particular, in 2023, the district started construction of a pesticide processing and packaging factory and fertilizer production factory in Dong An Industrial Cluster with a total investment of 230 billion VND and started construction of the Erex Sakura Yen Bai Biomass Fuel Factory in Bac Van Yen Industrial Cluster invested by EREX Joint Stock Company (Japan) and Sakura Green Energy Company. Mr. Honna Hitoshi - Chairman and General Director of EREX Joint Stock Company Japan said: "The reason we chose Van Yen district, Yen Bai province to build a biomass power plant is because we realized that this is a potential land, with many strengths to develop biomass power, with favorable traffic conditions. The leaders of Van Yen district and Yen Bai province are always interested, accompanying, listening and promptly providing measures to remove difficulties for investors".
Identifying tourism as a green economic sector, one of the four key tourist areas of the province according to the Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress, the district directed the development and implementation of the "District Tourism Development Project for the period 2021-2025". In addition to spiritual tourism products, the district has focused on exploiting potential tourist destinations such as waterfalls, caves, hot springs, terraced fields... and promoting the cultural values of ethnic minorities such as folk songs, folk dances and recreating unique festivals of the district, which have become the "brand" of Van Yen such as: Cinnamon Festival, Festival of practicing the worship of Mother Goddess Thuong Ngan Dong Cuong, forest festival of Mong Na Hau people... to serve tourism development.
Mr. Dang Van Chinh - Director of Na Hau Agricultural and Tourism Cooperative said: "Our biggest wish is to create clean, quality, and reputable products to serve the needs of tourists on their local discovery and experience tours. Therefore, after a field survey and seeing that there is a clean water source, we registered to build a sturgeon farming model and establish a cooperative to create more jobs for local people; at the same time, exploit the potential for tourism development and cultural preservation."
Thanks to the effective implementation of economic models in the fields of agriculture, industry, trade and services, in recent years, the material and spiritual life of the people of all ethnic groups in Van Yen district has been significantly improved. The average income per capita increased from 38.5 million VND in 2020 to 58 million VND in 2022; the poverty reduction rate is 5.53% per year on average. New rural construction has achieved positive and comprehensive results. To date, the district has had 18/24 communes meeting new rural standards. The targets for building new rural districts have basically achieved the planned progress. The appearance from urban to rural areas has made many improvements and improvements.
Chairman of the District People's Committee Ha Duc Anh said: "The above results are thanks to the solidarity, unity of will and action in the entire Party Committee, first of all in the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, the trust, joint efforts and unanimity of the entire political system, the business community and the people of all ethnic groups in the district. These are factors that are decisive for the success of the local political tasks. The district also focuses on implementing the motto "Assigning tasks, contracting products" based on the viewpoint of clear people, clear work, clear results, clear time, each job must have a person in charge, each job must have only one person to preside over and take responsibility, linking the tasks of agencies, units and localities with the responsibility of the head".
The colorful cultures of 12 ethnic groups have created a highlight for Van Yen to develop sustainable green tourism.
To realize the goal of "green" development, in the coming time, Van Yen determined to continue restructuring the economy towards green development, in line with the potential and advantages of the locality; focusing on promoting organic production, developing agriculture and forestry according to the value chain associated with building sustainable new rural areas; developing circular economy, environmentally friendly industry, becoming a driving force for rapid and sustainable economic growth; developing green, unique, attractive tourism... creating a strong driving force to promote socio-economic development, determined to complete the goal of building Van Yen district to meet new rural standards by 2025.
