Research activities to apply scientific and technological advances in production and life not only promote local socio-economic development, but also contribute to sustainable poverty reduction for ethnic minority areas...

In the past 10 years (from 2012 to 2023), many projects under the Program to support the application and transfer of scientific and technological advances to promote the socio-economic development of rural, mountainous and ethnic minority areas have been implemented in Binh Thuan. Specifically, up to now, there have been 10 projects coordinated by the Department of Science and Technology, currently promoting "Building a model of propagation using tissue culture technology and intensive cultivation of dwarf banana in Binh Thuan province". The project includes 9 technological processes, training 6 technicians, producing nearly 18,000 dwarf banana trees aiming to build a model and transfer the process of planting and intensive cultivation of dwarf banana (using tissue culture banana varieties) with a total area of 5 hectares for ethnic minorities in La Da commune, Ham Thuan Bac district.

The project "Building a model for breeding and raising crossbred goats for meat in Binh Thuan province" has been implemented recently.

In some arid areas, the following projects have been implemented: "Building a model for applying water-saving irrigation technology to agricultural production in Bac Binh and Tuy Phong districts"; "Application of rainwater collection technology, building a model of agriculture and forestry combined with irrigation in the dry sandy coastal area of Binh Thuan" in the three districts of Tuy Phong, Bac Binh and Ham Thuan Bac. Thereby, training technicians and supporting local people to effectively apply the transferred technology process to agricultural production to contribute to improving income... Or the project "Building a model for treating alum-contaminated water for daily life in areas affected by climate change affecting water resources in localities in the province" has deployed 400 alum-contaminated water treatment models for 400 households in Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan Nam, Ham Tan and Tuy Phong.

Recently, the provincial functional department has also implemented the project "Building a sustainable integrated cashew intensive farming model in Binh Thuan province" to transfer the integrated cashew intensive farming process. This is a model of new planting and intensive farming, renovating low-yield cashew gardens in Tra Tan commune (Duc Linh), La Ngau commune (Tanh Linh), Son My commune (Ham Tan) contributing to increasing income for people. Along with that, it has coordinated to implement a number of projects expected to be economically effective such as "Building a model of growing cordyceps mushrooms and a model of growing straw mushrooms indoors for households to promote socio-economic development of Binh Thuan province". Or implementing the project "Application of scientific and technological advances in the production of functional foods to support the treatment of gout from the lichen Roccella Montagnei in Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province" towards building a model for developing endemic lichen raw material areas. Thereby providing medicinal resources, linking the application of science and technology along the commodity value chain to increase income for people in Tuy Phong district and maintain the conservation of natural resources.

Recently, in the fourth quarter of 2023, the project "Building a model for breeding and raising commercial crossbred goats for meat in Binh Thuan province" to help people in rural and mountainous areas receive technical advances to develop goat farming was also accepted. The result was the construction of a concentrated goat farming model with a scale of 90 female goats (Bach Thao breed) - 10 male goats (Boer breed) at a unit under the Department of Science and Technology and a model of raising dispersed crossbred goats in 20 households in the area of Tuy Phong and Bac Binh districts. Thereby improving the quality of the local goat herd, which mainly consists of Co goats and Bach Thao goats with the limitations of small stature and lower meat yield than some crossbred goat breeds...

Supporting people through the application and transfer of scientific and technological advances is essential, thereby not only promoting local socio-economic development but also contributing to sustainable poverty reduction for ethnic minority areas. Therefore, in the coming time, this activity will continue to be promoted in the province by consulting and proposing to order projects suitable for rural, mountainous and ethnic minority conditions to implement to bring about the most practical results.
