On January 7, at the Ho Chi Minh City Student Cultural House, more than 2,000 students from universities and colleges in the city, representing nearly 50,000 volunteers, attended the launching ceremony of the 16th Spring Volunteer Campaign in 2024. The program was organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union and the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Student Association.
Attending the event were Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Chairman of the Central Council of Young Pioneers Nguyen Pham Duy Trang; Permanent Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Thi Bach Mai; Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union Phan Thi Thanh Phuong.
The 16th Spring Volunteer Campaign is the program to kick off the 2024 Youth Volunteer Year. The activity contributes to promoting the campaign "Ho Chi Minh City - The City I Love", thereby educating the tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", "The whole leaves cover the torn leaves" among the city's youth, students and pupils. At the same time, it connects the community to carry out good deeds, civilized lifestyles, sharing, and caring for special subjects and those in special circumstances during the 2024 Lunar New Year.
The campaign will take place within 1 month, from January 7 to February 7, 2024, with many activities taking place in districts and Thu Duc City; hospitals, nursing homes, shelters, open houses, specialized schools, social facilities in Ho Chi Minh City; student dormitories, accommodation areas, worker and student accommodation areas; drug rehabilitation facilities...
Specifically, volunteers will conduct at least 50 “Youth Spring Corners”; support health check-ups, consultations, and free medicine for 3,000 people and children in difficult circumstances. In addition, they will give Tet gifts to 2,000 sick children and poor patients; give 10,000 banh chung; plant 2,000 new trees; and mobilize at least 1,500 blood donations...
The campaign also focuses resources on activities in Thanh An island commune (Can Gio district) combined with promoting and introducing tourism products and OCOP products. The new point of this year's campaign is that there are volunteer teams in some provinces in the South Central, Southeast, Southwest regions and Tay Ninh province to support Tet care for people in difficult circumstances in these places.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Student Association Tran Thu Ha emphasized that the theme for 2024 was established in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of the Central Party Secretariat agreeing to choose 2024 as the "Year of Youth Volunteers", 25 years of the "Summer Volunteer Campaign" being deployed nationwide. That affirms that volunteering has urged millions of steps to "Go to share - Go to practice - Go to contribute - Go to grow".
The 2024 Spring Volunteer Campaign continues to create an environment for students and young people to practice their personality, capacity, social practice skills and international integration.
The new point this year is to promote coordination with Vietnamese student associations abroad to connect the participation of the city's international student community, young artists, etc.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, from the city to the grassroots levels, "Spring of Identity" activities were organized to welcome the success of the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Student Association, term 2023 - 2028; launching the response to the 2024 theme "Year of Youth Volunteers" associated with the climax of traditional education activities of the student movement and the Vietnam Student Association, "Journey 9-1", "Ho Chi Minh City - The City I Love", "Saigon River - the river of my city"; activities to visit and take care of parents of the student movement; organizing tree planting activities, launching the "Spring of Identity" movement on social networks.
