The Management Board of Con Dao National Park (Ba Ria-Vung Tau province) has just held a ceremony to receive the title of Heritage Tree and the Hon Trung Bird Sanctuary Record Certificate.
The event marks the garden’s efforts to preserve and promote the value of natural heritage, raising awareness of sustainable environmental protection. At the same time, this is also an opportunity to introduce and promote the biodiversity of Con Dao district for tourism development. This time, the garden has a total of 24 trees recognized as heritage trees. Including 1 Banyan tree at Hon Bay Canh (237 years old, 7m in circumference, 17m high); 1 Banyan tree at Ong Dung Beach (155 years old, 4.6m in circumference, 14m high); 1 Sao Den tree at Bai Dai (237 years old, 7.9m in circumference, 25m high) and a group of 21 Phong Ba trees at Hon Cau (119 years old, largest circumference 274m). The Vietnam Record Organization also awarded a certificate of record for Hon Trung as the seabird sanctuary with the highest breeding density in Vietnam. This is the breeding ground for many rare bird species such as: black-backed tern, large-crested tern, white-bellied booby, white-breasted swift and some other bird species. According to investigation and statistics, Con Dao National Park has 1,077 plant species, belonging to 640 genera, of 160 families of vascular plants, in 6 plant phyla; 155 animal species belonging to 64 families, 26 orders including 25 species of mammals, 85 species of birds, 32 species of reptiles and 13 species of frogs, toads and many other species.
