* PRE-MATCH PREDICTIONS
Cambodia WOMEN 'S TEAM'S PROGRESS
The Cambodian women’s football team, led by coach Gao Fulin, made history by reaching the semi-finals of the SEA Games for the first time. They played very well in the group stage with a 2-0 victory over Laos, a 1-0 victory over Singapore and only lost 0-3 to Thailand after securing a place in the semi-finals.
Huynh Nhu (left) and teammates confidently won the semi-final match.
Under the leadership of Mr. Gao Fulin, the Cambodian women's team played more aggressively than before, the players had a clear tactical vision and attacked more sharply. In the home team's lineup, strikers Yoeun and Kunthea had good speed and scoring ability. However, the positions on the field were not really even and often missed the rhythm in coordination when surrounded by opponents. The Cambodian women's defense had relatively good physique but played uncertainly. The proof was that they let Thailand score 3 goals. However, overall, the Cambodian women's football team has made great progress compared to previous SEA Games.
The SEA Games Organizing Committee also decided to change the schedule to 7 p.m. (old schedule was 4 p.m.) and move the match to the Olympic Stadium with a capacity of up to 50,000 seats so that the players can be fueled by the fans.
Coach Mai Duc Chung 'The Cambodian women's team has reached the semi-finals, so they are not weak'
Mr. Gao Fulin showed his determination when he said: "The Vietnamese women's football team is very strong, but we will play with 100% of our form to give the fans a good match and possibly create a surprise against Vietnam ."
Vietnamese women are still in the position of seniors.
The Cambodian women's team has made a lot of progress, but at the moment they are still not a worthy opponent for the current SEA Games champions. Recently, Cambodia lost 0-7 to Vietnam at the 31st SEA Games (May 2022). At the Southeast Asian Championship in July 2022, the Vietnamese girls also easily beat Cambodia 3-0. Therefore, it can be said that if they play to their full potential, Huynh Nhu and her teammates will win tickets to the final match.
Before the match with Cambodia, coach Mai Duc Chung told his players to be careful and not to be subjective because Cambodia now, like Thailand, Myanmar, and the Philippines, plays organized football and has sharp attacking tactics. "Cambodia is progressing very quickly under the training of coach Gao Fulin, so I ask the players to focus. We also anticipate the pressure from the field, so we prepare the players well mentally," coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized.
Although he highly values his opponents, the 72-year-old coach also plans for the final match. It is likely that the Vietnamese women's football team will take the field with their strongest lineup, but after scoring a goal and leading the opponent by a large margin, coach Mai Duc Chung will withdraw key players to rest and recover for the final match on May 15.
While Vietnam faced a not-so-strong opponent, Thailand had to fight to the death with Myanmar at Army Stadium in the second semi-final. Thailand was rated higher, but Myanmar played very stubbornly, so this was not an easy match for the Thais.
