From revolutionary soldier to learned scholar

The workshop is an activity to pay tribute and commemorate the 120th anniversary of his birth. This is also a practical activity to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2024); the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024) and to celebrate major holidays of the Capital and the Country in 2024.

The workshop, attended by more than 100 experts and scientists from research institutes, universities, social organizations and the Dao family in Vietnam, aimed to systematize and supplement many valuable documents to affirm the great contributions of Professor Dao Duy Anh to the revolutionary cause of the nation and the country's academic foundation.

Speaking at the conference, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Ngoc, Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, said that on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Professor Dao Duy Anh's birth, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) also held a large conference about him. That conference affirmed that Professor Dao Duy Anh was the one who laid the foundation and built the foundation of Vietnamese social sciences and humanities.

Professor Dao Duy Anh was born on April 25, 1904 in Thanh Hoa (he died on April 1, 1988 in Hanoi). His hometown was Khuc Thuy village, Ta Thanh Oai commune, Thanh Oai district, Ha Dong province (now Thanh Oai district, Hanoi). He, along with Mr. Huynh Thuc Khang and General Vo Nguyen Giap, directly worked on the newspaper Tieng Dan and opened Quan Hai Tung Thu in Hue to soon spread patriotic ideology and Marxism to the people. He was arrested by the French imperialists in 1929.

After being released from prison, he devoted himself to researching the history and culture of the nation using the new scientific methods of the times. With a genuine national aspiration and great enthusiasm for contribution, he left behind a rich academic legacy. In particular, his work "Outline of Vietnamese Cultural History" has been considered a guideline by Vietnamese social science and humanities researchers for nearly 100 years.

Professor Dao Duy Anh is a famous historian, geographer, lexicographer, linguist, cultural, religious and folklore researcher and is considered the pioneer of many social sciences and humanities in Vietnam. Throughout his life, from his active revolutionary activities when he was young to his dedicated scientific research activities, he was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize by the Party and State in 2000.

In the actual situation at that time, he chose to do research to disseminate basic knowledge about the national liberation revolution according to Marxism and promote the values ​​of national culture, the core of which is patriotism and national pride in the glorious revolutionary cause.

Also at the event, Dr. Le Xuan Kieu - Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam affirmed that the life of scholar Dao Duy Anh is a shining example of human ethics, a true scientist. The personality and great contributions of scholar Dao Duy Anh are truly a valuable legacy, inspiring future generations.

This is a tribute to a revolutionary veteran, a professor, an intellectual, a great cultural figure in the Ho Chi Minh era. Up to now, his research works and works are still being taught, studied, developed and promoted in life. His name is given to many schools and streets in the capital Hanoi and many provinces and cities across the country such as: Thanh Hoa, Da Nang, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City...

Also on this occasion, Dan Tri Publishing House cooperated with a number of agencies to publish the book "Dao Duy Anh: From revolutionary patriot to learned scholar".
