From 2025, will cars with decals still be inspected?

Car decals, especially black roof decals, are popular with many car owners to beautify their "beloved cars".

The Giao thong Newspaper hotline received questions from readers about the fact that from 2025, the inspection of circulating cars will be carried out according to the provisions of the National Technical Regulation on cars, trailers, semi-trailers, and four-wheeled motorized cargo vehicles in technical safety and environmental protection inspection (QCVN 122:2024).

Readers wonder with the new regulation whether cars with decals can still be inspected?

Cars with decals covering less than 50% of the main body color can still be inspected normally (illustrative photo).

Regarding this issue, a representative of a vehicle inspection center in Hanoi said that according to QCVN 122:2024, cars that arbitrarily change the paint color to a different color than the vehicle registration certificate are considered serious damage or defects. Therefore, when going for inspection, they will not pass the inspection and must return to fix it for re-inspection.

At this time, either the car owner changes the information on the vehicle registration to match the actual paint color of the car, or repaints the original paint color to match the vehicle registration.

However, that is the case where the car has completely changed its paint color compared to the original color. With cars with body decals, roof decals will not be in the above case.

Applying decals to the vehicle body does not change the vehicle's identity. The decal area is less than 50% of the main paint color of the vehicle body (applying decals to decorate part of the vehicle body or advertise brand identity for vehicles used for transportation business such as taxis and technology vehicles). The car is still registered normally.

Regarding the roof decal, the representative of the inspection center also said that the roof area is not considered the body of the car, the car having a roof decal (mostly black roof decal) does not affect the vehicle's identification, does not change the structure, overall, or system of the car compared to the manufacturer's design, so the car is also inspected normally.

When passing other inspection items, a certificate and inspection stamp with an inspection cycle appropriate to the vehicle's production time will be issued.
